Just returned from 3rd trip! Recommendations...

Post by Jody H »

A big thank you to the members of the forum for their recommendations! John Brandi, Palm Tree Charters, was superb! We spent a memorable day with John on our charter to the BVIs. We planned our cruise and it included The Indians, Caves, lunch on Willie Ts, Sandy Spit, Foxys, and Smuggler's Cove in Tortola. John was so informative and our day was fluid, relaxing, and perfectly timed! :D

The new Starfish market was a welcome addition to our liquor shopping! We purchased all of our wine and hard liquor there....good prices and convenient to the original Starfish grocery/market.

Although we ate in the villa more on this trip, I must mention a few evenings out :-) Parking at Slim Man's is a must....Waterfront Bistro was a wonderful dining experience! Their bar is terrific, so was Jax's lounge at Zozo's! We were disappointed this year with our meal at Lime Inn. However, Margarita Phil's was terrific and we enjoyed the same table and same waiter as last year! Our children enjoyed Rhumb Lines and the Balcony.

Our villa, Villa del Sol:
Pros: pool, view, spacious, great breezes, good subdivision, rental agency provided beach chairs when requested
Cons: poor air conditioning...temperature near 78 degrees, kitchen was even warmer; pool's water feature and internet never worked; numerous lightbulbs were burned out; villa cleaning not completed on time and was mediocre at best! :?

We dealt with this and did our own cleaning...our trip was one of our best yet :D

Hidden Gem: We spent 2 days at At Home in the Tropics in STT prior to our STJ villa rental. We will return in a heartbeat to this 4 room gen of a bread and breakfast! :D

Thanks for the report! Sounds like you had a great time. Isn't Capt John the best?

Hi there Jody,

Glad to hear you had a fantastic time!

You've sparked my interest with your mention of the STT B&B, At Home in the Tropics...
Please share.

Hubs and I will need an overnight on STT before heading over to STJ.

Enjoy,
Kathy

Thanks, Xislandgirl

Kathy,
Here is the link to the B & B:

Your hosts are wonderful and the location perfect! It is quiet, even though it is in the downtown area. This actually surprised us! It is just below Blackbeard's Castle.

I wrote a review on Trip Advisor about At Home. It was through Trip Advisor that I first learned of At Home in the Tropics.

We were in Room #1 and it cost about $200 per night. This includes a served gourmet breakfast at 8:30 :) You are also about 5 minutes by taxi to the downtown dock!

Can you fill us in on the disappointment with the Lime Inn this time?

Lime Inn

Our disappointment with Lime Inn dealt with the food. Several items were unavailable and our requests were not met (ie too much blackened spices, steak overdone, etc.). Food arrived lukewarm and all 5 entrees were mediocre. We all agreed that we would not return in the future.

Our host was convivial and accommodating as usual. Our waitress was harried and curt...?

On another evening, my husband and I dined at Waterfront Bistro. It was a fabulous meal. :D On the same night our kids went to the Balcony, Beach Bar, Banana Deck, and Rhumb Lines and had a great time and good food!
