My feeling was that the "fun" a lot of people seemed to be having was forced and put on for show. "I may be 40, but I'm a a Buffett show! Let me get so drunk that I can't stand up any more and end up peeing myself and then throwing up! WOOHOO!"

I could have done without it. Maybe it's part of the package, but it's a part I could have done without.

Maybe I'm just getting old. But, most of the people acting like that are older than I am.

I see those same people at nearly every Springsteen event I go to.
Call me crazy but when I pay for a ticket to an event I actually plan to enjoy the event itself and I'm not interested in any show that other patrons are putting on for me. Perhaps I'm a stick in the mud!

Oh the temperatures sounded completely hellish to me... combine that with people that shouldn't be over indulging and you have a scary mixture... There's always quite a few at Jimmy Buffett concerts that can't handle the entire situation. One of the reasons we don't do the lawn anymore. It's a little more controlled in the reserved seating, just a little though, enough to make a difference. The difference between going and staying at home. Don't like messed up people falling on me either...that said...can't wait for Sept...

We went to see Jimmy in Sept 2006. While the show was awesome and we enjoyed it, we had to endure a freaking "monsoon" the entire show. Jimmy joked about the "hurricane conditions" in Michigan. It rained a bit when we were tailgating, but the skies opened up as soon as we went to see the show and it POURED the entire time. We had lawn "seats" situated on a hill. People decided that it would be "fun" to slide down the hill on their butts. Those partaking were covered in mud. We got a beer when we arrived and really couldn't drink it because the rain was making it splash out of the cup. Thank goodness it wasn't a cold rain. We also had to pay $120 from a scalper site for those glorious "seats". I tried to get tickets on-line immediately when they went on sale but was unable. All in all, we had a fantastic time, put the rain did put a bit of a "damper" on it.

He is going to be playing in Clarkston about an hour from our home tomorrow. I decided to pass this year but will hopefully have the chance again someday.

On a funny note, one of my friends and I ventured down the hill to the bathroom. I trekked down the hill in my trusty Teva's, no problem. She had a pair of flip flops on with no traction whatsoever. I was standing at the bottom of the hill waiting for her and down she went. Literally "I've fallen and I can't get up". Every time she tried to get up, she had no traction and went back down. We're talking serious mud here on a downgrade. I was laughing my a$$ off. Someone had to help her down and I ran to the bathroom with fear that I would pee myself. (Never wait too long to go at a concert  ) When we were leaving the bathroom, we discovered that she had mud all over her face. More laughter  . Those flip flops got thrown in the trash on the way out. Oh, and of course, it stopped raining.

I have to give my husband credit. We got 6 tickets. I worked in the Emergency Room at the time and he went with 5 female ER nurses. What a sport!

Guess I will have to settle for listening to his concerts on Sirius radio until the next time he is here. Got to listen to a little of the NC show after we went out to dinner Saturday.
Going "home" again October 26th!

When you see the "vehicle demographics" in the lot at Buffett or Springsteen shows (lotsa high priced SUVs etc), you would think that the drunken a-hole factor would be really minimal, but its not (although a friend pointed out that maybe some of the same idiot Camaro and Firebird drivers of yesterday are now driving some of those things now).

Too many people there to be seen rather than to see. I liked it better back in the day when booze was not the drug of choice. Stoners werent quite as obnoxious and were a lot less likely to puke all over your shoes.

I am going to chime in and agree with the grouchy people on this thread. John and I used to go to concerts ALL the time. Now, we rarely bother. It's not that the quality of the show has declined, it is the people around us! I don't mind people dancing and having a good time, but I am sick of having pot smoke blown in my face. I am sick of jerks body slamming me. I am sick of drunk people singing along at the top of their lungs (off key, of course). It's just not fun anymore. Maybe I am getting cranky, I don't know.

That said, we are going to see REM Friday night. Hopefully the audience is a bunch of old farts like us.

This forum is the best! My husband b-day is Aug 26 and he LOVES Buffett. I don't as much but when I saw this thread, I looked into dates around this area. This weekend is out in Philly but he is playing Aug 24 in Atlantic City! I looked and I can get tickets on StubHub but then reached out to one of his friends (the best man at our wedding) and turns out he is going with his friends. We rarely see him so this will be an AWESOME surprise for him.

Thanks again!

We went to the Eagles concert last month and it was awesome. Love their old stuff. I'm not much on their new album....maybe I need to listen to it more to learn to like it. Anyway, I guess it was only old farts at the concert but we never saw anyone get out of hand at the tailgating or at the concert.

Old Farts all of us. I'm 33

I'd be far happier wandering into a bar down island somewhere and stumbling across an impromptu concert of his. they do happen.

I can do without the Ahole factor

Atlantic City in August. You all crack me up, I thought I was the only one who gets annoyed at other people singing along. I wanted to say to one, lady I didn't pay 200 bucks to hear you sing. And guy who sang "Tampico Trauma," your Spanish is excellent, but I really didn't need that either.

Yankee games are even worse, and don't get me started on the train crowds after a hockey game. A big fat drunken person literally did fall on me. Dude, if you're reading this, I think you were genuinely apologetic, but I didn't want to hear it at the time.

I have finally become a curmudgeon.

You're killing me! We went to the show at Gillette last year, but weren't able to get tickets this year :( I know Great Woods (is it Comcast now?) is smaller and it's really tough to get tickets. Have been there several time in the past and MUCH prefer it to Gillette. Would have loved to have gone to the Fenway show as well...

We used to see JB every year in college and I remember seeing people there with their kids, which I thought was pretty cool. Back then (early 90s) I remember fun partying but nothing too extreme.

Based on what I have read hear as well as first hand reports from my die-hard Parrothead cousins, it sounds like the crowds have changed for the worse.

Well, happy to say we survived the concert even though it was god-awful hot, again. A massive thunderstorm broke loose just minutes before Jimmy took the stage. We had a 45 min. rain delay and then he played, what we thought, was the best concert in many years.

I must say, after reading all of the comments on this topic, I found quite a different crowd this time. Most of the more "mature" 40+ group were rather tame and well-behaved. The most annoying and scary age group was the 20-something college crowd. They were horrendously disgusting and foul. Many of the girls were acting like trash. I am certainly no prude but those girls truly needed some dignity. They were sloppy drunk, makeup running down their faces, yuk.
One other sight that was rather, unfortunately, memorable, was this woman who was part of a group a few sites down. She kept lifting her shirt and flashing practically anyone who looked at her. Let me add that she had no business flashing anyone at all. She was not, how do I put this, youthful or attractive at all. Even on a good day, she had no business doing that. Scary.

Despite the heat, we really had a great day.
Since the concert was in the ballpark, I rather enjoyed the reserved seating over sitting on the lawn at other venues and having people stepping all over you. That certainly gets old. It's a full day, that's for sure. Got in at 2 a.m. Had a blast.

Don't want to put the gris gris on it or anything but one of the comments about Buffett at Jazz Fest is that it never rains on Buffett.

Two years ago it poured ALL day (RickG knows the kind of pouring I am talking about) and like 15 minutes before Buffett, the storms parted around the Fair Grounds and the sun came out.

I hope I totally didn't jinx his next show. Parrotheads at Fest are fine (I love Buffett but am not a parrothead)...I'll take them anyday over some of the people that come here during Mardi Gras
