Hale Lani, Solaris or Cara Mia

Post by j-bird »

We have been to St. John 3 times, staying at the Temptress, Treasure Ridge and Island Manor. We are planning another trip and are looking for some new options for our family of 4. Things that are important to us: good view, quality furnishings and amenities, pool, & location. Currently we are comparing Hali Lani, Solaris, & Cara Mia. Any feedback on these properties would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi j-bird,
I see that you have stayed at Island Manor. That has always been on the short list for us. Is there a reason you aren't staying there again or do you like to try new villa's. Any feedback on Island Manor would be great.

I'll be interested in responses to Hale Lani----we have it on hold for a week next March. I like the Maria Bluff area in general. Its not as high up as some of the other villas where you've stayed (such as Treasure Ridge), but I like being closer to the water. Others like the hills. We picked Hale Lani because we wanted a house reasonably close to Cruz Bay, with a nice pool and good sunset views that could sleep 7 people. If we had only 4 people, I might also look at Villa Bijou, Palm Hill or Sea Stone, all of which are in the same general area and are somewhat newer than Hale Lani.

Last time I was in Solaris, I think last summer, it was in need of a cash infusion. Was getting dated and worn. The great room cooks in the afternoon direct sun too, no A/C in great room. Huge pool.

Ask the Catered To folks about the place, they will give you the straight scoop. Place has great potential.

Were on a flight with someone that had just stayed at Hale Lani, and they loved it. They only had it to compare to two previous stays at Gallows, but they did really like the villa and the location.

I may have already pm'd with a couple of you but maybe not. We stayed at Hale Lani in November and LOVED it. Not as upscale as some of our previous houses but the views are AWESOME and it is an extremely comfortable house. Very nice property.

Iowa _ I am staying at Hale Lani this November. I went with it after reading FlipFlops review. I will post when I return and give you my impressions. I was interested in Villa Bijou but the owners were staying there that week, it looks really nice. This is our first time on maria Bluff and I think we are going to like it!

Island Manor

Post by j-bird »

Island Manor is a beautiful property, gorgeous stone-wall landscaping, great pool, 3 floors with lots of room and decks around 3 sides of it. Quiet location with all bedrooms contiguous in one building. Very breezy (to windy in April). The major down-side is the view. There is a stagnant-looking salt pond within full view. Hart Bay is in the distance, but can only really be seen from the top floor.

I think I was one of the first forumites to stay at Hale Lani last year, and I loved it. As flip-flop said, it's not the fanciest place you'll ever stay, but the location is perfect and the rental company was fantastic. The sunsets are amazing, and it's pretty close to everything. I really loved it, and I would've gone back there this year if we hadn't wanted to try the "other side" of the island.

Hey Lulu ... long time!

What blew me away about Hale Lani was how quiet and private it seemed & the uninterrupted views considering it was SO close to Cruz Bay. Very conveniently located. I'd stay there again in a heart beat but I am yearning for a Coral Bay stay! I blame JT!

We are staying out past Vie's this time. I loved that side of the island, even though it's a little "no man's land!"

However, I do love Hale Lani, and I seriously wanted to stay there again, but there's something about experiencing a change of pace that is going to be refreshing to me.

It is just so peaceful at Hale Lani. The sound of the waves and the bright sunlight woke me up early everyday, and I would sit on the deck and drink my morning coffee while the sailboats went by.

I think it would be a great place for a family to stay.
