Photos from recent trip
We were on the island again between June 10 and June 18. This was a family affair with 3 kids and 2 parents! Needless to say, the camera was not the focus on this trip. Good thing, too, as the Sahara Dust made the skies very hazy many of the days we were there. Nevertheless, we did get some fun photos from the trip. Here are a few examples:

Fabulous pix, as per your usual stuff! One question, tho...do you get to enjoy those places? I hope you don't spend all your time setting up, composing and taking pictures! I hope you actually get to enjoy those beautiful places you capture so well on (film) chips!
Great eye! Thanks for sharing! You working on your TR?

The liver is evil, it must be punished!

Bert, you're killing me! I spend the majority of my time swimming and digging holes in the sand with the kids. Probably 10-15 minutes per day with the camera. Some trips more, some less, but this one was bare minimum. Absolutely love the Caribbean and can't wait to get back (don't have another trip planned right now which isn't sitting well with my wife!).
We stayed in "Great Escape" rented through Destination St. John. First time I've stayed in Catherinberg and the view is the selling point for sure.
The camera is a Canon 10D. Lens for all these shots was a Canon 17-40 f/4L paired with a B+W circular polarizing filter.

Thanks, Vicki. I've really been enjoying your galleries. The photos of Biltmore are fantastic - especially the reflection shots.

In a word; breakthtaking! I couldn't get my polarizer shots right (too dark), so I got frustrated and took it off (after the first try) for the remainder of the trip. Are your shots all just polarizer? Did you tweek them with any color correction? I simply can't fathom how you can get shots that perfect! If it's all you; your amazing! Even if it's not all you, you're still amazing!!! I need some photo lessons big time!
Seriously - unreal photos. What type of camera, lens, etc? I'm considering purchasing a wide angle (goes down to 10mm) for my Canon DSLR for our upcoming July trip. What do you think about it's usefulness down there?chrisn wrote:In a word; breakthtaking! Thanks for the compliments. To answer a couple of questions - the camera is a Canon 10D SLR. I have looked at the 10-22mm L for this camera, but for whatever reason haven't bought one. I love the 17-40 because it is so snappy and contrasty. Great for these types of photos. I think Vicki has the 10-22 and loves it. If you haven't seen the photo of hers with her husband and his mother in the water - WOW. The 10mm excels with super wide panoramas.
Catherinberg can be reached either by Centerline road (about half-way to Coral Bay) or from North Shore road (between Peter Bay and Cinnamon Bay). There is an unpaved road connecting the two and Catherinberg is on that road. I think it is called the "John's Head" road.
