Snorkeling On St. John
Hello All
I am wondering where people think the best snorkeling on St. John is? I have been to Trunk and Maho (where we were able to see turtles). I would love to see turtles again this trip AND "unusual" critters! We talked to a couple last year that said they saw seahorses on St. Croix when they were snorkeling! Any direction anyone offers is much appreciated.

Take the hike out to Waterlemon Cay. Easy, flat path. We go all the way around to where it's closest to the cay, but there is a little sandy beach about half way down the path where you could set up and then swim out the cay. People say there's usually lots of starfish in that area. And really nice coral all around the cay itself.
Oor best snorkeling last December was at Salt Pond on both and left and right hand sides.
We saw Turtles, squid, conch tons of fish, octopus and a HUGE nurse shark.
I also loved having the donkeys laying on the beach nearby.
Plus hubby found a dollar bill-- so we actually MADE money that day!

Our best beach, day in and day out, has been Hawksnest. Last month we were there during what appeard to be a Southern Ray convention. We saw five different ones. It's probably not the most diverse or spectacular beach, but it is consistantly good. The facilities are good also.

Just seconding the suggestion of Waterlemon Kay. We were there last week and have never seen so many starfish - hundreds of them on the left side of the island as you look from the beach. Its normally the best snorkeling you can get to by foot. The reef seems to be doing well and lots of fish. We always make camp on the sandy beach side and merely snorkel out to Waterlemon. You normally run into a ray or two along the way out. You can't go wrong.
