Party of 16...Trip report part 1

Post by Kentuckygirl »

A little background ...
My husband and I love STJ and were excited to share our favorite place with some of our best friends and family. One other couple had spent a few hours at Trunk (STT cruise ship stop), and the other 12 were all complete newbies. We rented La Jolla Caribe and Mango Bay, both in the Catherineberg area. Our group consisted of 8 couples, ages 37 through low 50's with the majority of us turning 40 this year. We did not try do everything together, so my report will be based on what I did.

Arrival Day
We took an early flight out of Lexington, layover in Atlanta, arrived in St. Thomas at about 2:00 ... all rather uneventful. We did carry-on only, so after a couple shots of Cruzan at the airport, we met Rachel and were on our way to Red Hook. Rachel was great! She was full of stories and made a nice tour guide. We made the 3:00 ferry, met our rep. from Destination St. John, picked up 1 of our jeeps and headed up to the villa. The views from there are amazing!

The villa was perfect for us ... more on it later.

We had a few provisions through Katilady, and we had placed an order through Mixology. Everything was there, with our beverages chilled when we arrived.
We were waiting for a call from my sister and her husband, who were hoping to make the 4:00 ferry. They missed it, so they had to have a few painkillers at the bar, then take the 5:00. We made a batch of painkillers as well, then met them at the ferry dock. We took them up to the villa to drop off their bags, then headed over to Coral Bay for dinner at Shipwreck Landing. We started with conch fritters (yum), then we all had the Mahi. It was fabulous as always! Shipwreck is definitely one of my favorite places. Sorry, no food porn. We were getting really tired at this point, so we went back to the villa and crashed early.
Next up ... Ram Head Hike and the other 12 arrive.

Nice start! On to part 2 for me now. :)
