When do I buy travel insurance?

Post by petepie »

When do you usually buy travel insurance? Right before the 30 day trip window, or as soon as you incur some costs (book airfare, book villa and pay deposit)? Is there a best time to buy?

Thanks.

I buy it as soon as I have paid out some funds. In the most recent case, as soon as I sent in my deposit on the villa.

I bought ours just before I had to make the final payment on the villa. The rule was (for me at least) – I could get insurance for a pre-existing medical condition as long as I had not made the final payment on the villa. This worked well, because we had to cancel that trip.

I know this has been discussed before, but which travel insurance companies have forumites had good experiences with?

We use CSA too and have always heard positive things about them.

If you purchase CSA trip cancellation insurance through the Forum (just click on the link in the upper left for a free, no-obligation quote), we have arranged for pre-existing coverage and no advance purchase requirement! It will cost you no more to purchase through the forum and we do get a commission - which really helps us out around here.
Thanks!
