Things I purchase due to forum suggestions . . .

Post by patr »

It looks like I am going to have to order some Keens.

It will be in addition to the other purchases I've made because of forumite pressure (the island-obsessed peer pressure).

My lists includes: Neat Sheet, Zappping bug swatter, bug patches, St. John Magazine, Steve Simonsen Calendar, Feet-Fin-4WD, STJ car sticker and more.

I am also considering Techni-Ice and Polar Bear cooler.

My list includes Neat Sheets purchased on-line and received this week, Keen's Venice H2 (love 'em), STJ car stickers, forum t-shirt, CSA Travel Insurance, STJ Magazine, Cruz Bay Grill Rub, Rachel's private taxi, and lots more rum. Do you think if forumites started jumping off cliffs, we'd all follow suit?

I bookmark interesting threads so I can review them for trip planning. Lots of good information to be found here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, folks!

That would depend on which bar, restaurant or beach is at the bottom of that cliff.

We bought Feet, Fins and 4 wheel Drive, Off the Beaten Trail, the National Geographic map, neat sheets, Hook bracelet, Deli Grotto sandwiches, and ....oh yeah..........plane tickets.

Lots - from hook bracelet to "but honey fl george says we need a softsided rolling ice chest"

I guess the best buy was a copy of "Grandma Raised the Roof"

Yes Pat, it is a book about a woman, Ethel McCully, who legend says saw St. John from a boat and jumped off, swam to shore, and never left! She built a house called island fancy, I believe. The book is out of print but this amazon link has the isbn number:

http://www.amazon.com/Grandma-Raised-Ro ... 143&sr=8-1
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

McCully's book is referenced in "St. John Off The Beaten Track" and was published in 1954. If anyone knows where to buy one, please post. I would love to have a copy. She wanted to title her book "I Did It With Donkleys" but her publisher nixed that idea. She sounds like quite a character.
