We have Verizon and have to have phone contact every other day at least (to check on our dog who'll be in doggy daycare). Do you know if Verizon works there? Also, can you rent a cell phone?

Thanks!

We are cingular/att folks, but I have seen folks mention that they need to turn on international service at some nominal fee while they are on island. Also, service pretty much only works in Cruz Bay/facing St. Thomas.

But, this is based on other's experience. I would search the forum.

ATT/Cingular was great in Cruz Bay and even better in Coral Bay. Francis Bay and Maho Bay are maybes. South shore is marginal at best coverage for any service.

My blackberry and wireless broadband card are no extra fees for USVIs.

We have Alltel as well- no problems in Cruz Bay area. Our villa high over Coral Bay had a great signal, but we were warned not to use our cell there as we were probably getting the cell signal from Tortola and could possibly incur exorbitant international fees.

There is an ATT/Cingular tower in Coral Bay on Bordeaux, so that may have been the signal. I get my best ATT/Cingular signal in the USA on Ajax Peak.

Keep in mind that Verizon is buying Alltel so the reception may change a bit for Alltel customers :)
