Glow Worms

Post by VayCay »

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience going to see the Glow worms mentioned in FeetFins&4WD after the full moon? We will be there at the begining of the full moon and are wonderin if this is something that is worth doing?

Let's bump this back to the top, cause I want to know also.. Seem like a great excuse to introduce the kids to a night snorkel.

Any one have recommendations... or a reason not to look for the worms?

(We're there for next full moon, too. YAY!)

Haven't read the book, but are you talking about the phosphorescence? The stuff that glows as you swish?

It's super cool and seems to pool up in stiller water, so Maho makes sense.

If it's something different, please tell me! I'm interested.

from FFFWD "about three days after the full moon, hawksnest is host to some little critters called glow worms. these are 1/2-inch long worms in the sea that come close to shore once a month to mate. they flash like fireflies-the male flashes at one rate the, female at another. if you wade in the water shining a flashlight, the little glow worms will come to see what sex you are. you can carefully scoop them in a coup...to check them out. please return them to the sea afterwards"

So i mean i read it, it must be true right? i was just hoping SOMEONE in the forum had done this and could dish up some advice.
