Vegas....Baby

Post by mia »

I'm back...although I'm sure my absense has gone relatively unnoticed :( I must confess that I have been busy visiting Las Vegas travel sites...yes, Las Vegas! My family gave me tickets to see Elton John's show in May.....my task has been to find the least cheesey hotel out of the many cheesey hotels in Vegas  I can't tell you how much I've really, really missed this forum....
We have two trips planned to St. John for this year and the villas we have rented don't seem to have very much feedback written about them. The one we are staying at in Feb. is "Great Turtle Villa" in Coral Bay...the other villa for our Sept. trip is "South Shore Villa". I was pleased to see that South Shore is one of the two villas written about on the new Jeff and Russ website. If anyone has stayed at or has info about these villas, I sure would appreciate hearing from you.
I finally returned to this forum last night and have already learned so much...Ted is back at Tage...Yippeeee!

South Shore looks great. Enjoy that one!

And Elton... well he's Elton! That should be a great time!
I stayed at a cheesy place when I went out there to see Bruce Springsteen. It was cheesy and cheap :)
I believe it was a Holiday Inn and it was right near the Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo was a nice looking place and it is on one end of one of the trams. Maybe check that place out.

Enjoy!

waterguy....Thank you, it is great to be back. It is nice people like you who make this forum so special.

mary beth....Thanks for the info on Vegas. We are thinking that if we wait to reserve a hotel room closer to the dates we will be there, we might get a better deal. Cheesy ( not "cheesey"...hate when I do that  ) and cheap sound good to me.
Elton John has truly special meaning for me based on a personal connection he holds with our oldest daughter Melissa....she passed away a little over five years ago....so the tickets given to me by my family are very dear to my heart. My husband and our daughter Carrie will be going too, our son Matthew and his wife Erin couldn't take the time off. I do know for sure that Melissa will be right there with us...especially when he sings Crocodile Rock.

Love cheesy!

Post by MarciaMarciaMarcia »

Hi Mia. Las Vegas is supposed to be cheesy, it's part of its charm. If it were me I would embrace my inner cheese and pick the most over the top tacky feast of cheesy Americana that my budget would allow and have fun with it. It really is a shockingly spectacular sight at night. I bet that will be a great show, too. Tiny Dancer is my all time favorite. I hope you have a wonderful time!

Oooh Mia! My sisters and I saw Elton in Vegas in april of 2005. It was EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed at Paris. It was a nice hotel and right across the street from the Bellagio fountains!

You'll have a blast! If he hasn't changed up the show yet, there are some interesting moments! 8)

SarahD,
Thanks for your review of Elton John's show...so glad to hear you describe it as EXCELLENT. I have read about the "interesting moments" you mentioned. Can you remember if Sir Elton did sing Crocodile Rock?

Vegas in May will be a great time-the speed of life is so opposite from St. John.

Just the words "crocodile rock" bring back 70's memories! He's done so many great songs. Your daughter is sure to be there in spirit with all of you.

And you can either embrace your cheese or there's several hotels which aren't too "out there". If you're into the priceline/hotwire bidding thing, these sites are helpful:

http://www.betterbidding.com/

And if you like to do a lot of searching prices this site lists deals usually:

I love the whole Vegas image, was just out there in October. Stayed at the Aladdin and the Westin. The Westin's definitely not cheesy, very zen like and more polished. pm me if you have any questions

Have fun with all your planning-it's so much fun reading travel forums when you're in the planning stages!

Thanks to all....for the Las Vegas tips you have so kindly given to me on our St. John forum  I love the idea of "embracing my inner cheese" and may very well go for it. Thanks again!

>>Can you remember if Sir Elton did sing Crocodile Rock?<<

Hi Mia, I think he did, but I can't be 100% positive. That song is definitely a crowd pleaser though, so I bet he plays it. I am very sorry for the loss of your daughter. I can see how attending this show will be so meaningful for all of you.

"But the biggest kick I ever got
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock"

I'm still trying to guess your real identity. :?

You will love Elton and the red piano tour. We saw him at Caesers when he first started relieving Celine. They sell red boas and champagne. You will love it! If you need any help with planning your trip let me know. We are experts on vegas and have seen tons of shows. If you get the chance go see "O" at the Bellagio, you won't be disappointed. The tickets are very expensive but well worth it.

I'm so glad that you "got" my perspective. It's just so festive and in my mind a perfect place to play and be joyful which in turn is a beautiful way to honor your daughter, in my opinion. BTW, they do repeats all the time. It was the Grand Hotels show that featured Vegas.

I don't think you'd know me. I've lurked for so long that I feel like some of you are friends. I cried along with all of you when Howie died and followed along with the building of Bongo Bongo, felt sick when I saw the scar on the hill in Cruz Bay where the Grande somethingorother is being built yet I totally get why people want to come and stay forever. Here on this forum we may disagree on many things but we all have one thing in common; something pulls our spirit to this island.
