Mission Rest on Mamey Peak

Post by bag »

Friends who will be first time visitors to the Caribbean have rent Mission Rest on Mamey Peak. The owner indicated that it will be necessary to rent a jeep. There is much hesitation on the part of the renter since they have never driven on the left side. My question - will cabs go back and forth to Mamey Peak and what would be the approximate charge?

Since it is about 25 minutes from Cruz Bay, where would you suggest for dinner? Coral bay?

Rent the jeep. It is not hard driving on the Left and depending where I don't think any taxi will drive up Mamey Peak road, they would stop at Centerline. If they can get one to take them.

Cabs might do it, but it maybe on their time/schedule so alot of time waiting - also a cab to the beach, back to the villa to clean up, cab to dinner and back (for 2 if they can get one to do it) will easily be more than the $70.00 per day for a car - rent a car and they can hit 2 beaches a day, go to town to shop, out to dinner etc and they will easily adjust to driving on the left - it's not unusual to see cars here that the renters have home made signs on the inside - sticky notes and big ones that say keep left :)

rent a jeep, it's fun

don't rely on cabs, get a jeep. driving is easy and fun, and you really need mobility to explore the island.

Tell you friends that the speed limit is 20mph on the island and that people get accustomed to driving on the left in less than an hour. It will be fine.
