has anyone taken the ferry to Jost???
I know there are a ton of charters to try....but I was just looking at the ferry schedule and the ferry to Jost caught my eye......
has anyone ever done it? How is it? Where does it drop you off? If you want to go to white bay/soggy dollar bar...do you have to take a taxi from the ferry to the beach? Why would one take the ferry to jost?
curious minds want to know!

Call ahead of time to make certain they are running the day you want to go. If no one calls they will cancel.
It drops you off at the ferry dock on the left side of Great Harbor. You need to check in at the customs building in town. You could walk it, but you're better off catching a cab to White Bay. Arrange for your pickup to go back to the ferry dock with the taxi driver before he drops you off at White Bay.
Some folks like to hang out at Foxy's when they first get there. I recommend you head to White Bay right away as the taxi drivers are scarce after the first round of people head out. If you want to hit Foxy's do it at the end of the day before you catch the ferry.
Cheers, RickG

I took the ferry last year. My only complaint is that it leaves too early. Just when your getting revved up at the Soggy Dollar, you have to go. Feels like your on a cruise with the, "damn, have to go back to the boat" feeling.
Next year, I'm taking the ferry, but bringing a tent to sleep out at Ivans.

We have taken the ferry four out of the last five trips. I agree with everything RickG said as far as advice except that we never called ahead and it ran every time. One time they did cancel the ferry to Virgin Gorda but rerouted them through Tortola.
I think it is an economical way to spend about 5 hours on Jost.

Agree that this is the most economical way to get to Jost and back. The taxis are right there when you get off the ferry, so no worries. It costs about $5/person to get over to White Bay and they will pick you up for the return...which I agree is WAY too early!
Ivan has some cabins and some places to pitch a tent. There aren't that many cabins, so I would reserve in advance. If you are interested, just check out his website: www.ivanscampground.com

My wife and I just took the ferry last Sunday. It is now a must do on every trip. I will agree that I wish we Could have stayed longer. Next year we plan on staying overnight because it was so fun. I know I could have downed about 10 more painkillers US we Stayed.
It was 50 dollars round trip, but I did see aSign that the price was going up to 60 next month.

We took the ferry over to Jost. I chose that over a sail because I wanted more time on the island and I wanted more independence than a sail trip sometimes offers. We did not call ahead. The ferry ride is very short. Getting through customs only took a few minutes and Rick is right, if you don't get on a taxi right away, you don't get on a taxi. You could walk, but it is a pretty long walk and it was SO hot. The folks I saw walking looked miserable. We were able to spend time at Foxy's, Ivan's, and Soggy Dollar. I can say I definitely wanted more time there. One day didn't feel like enough. I am going to plan at least one overnight next time.

Ivan does have 16 cottages I think, but he does have tents as well as bareback and you can bring your own tent.
Just call and see. It really is worth staying overnight. You can head to Great harbour to Corsairs or just head over to Soggy for dinner.
I just spent 3 days with Ivan and 2 overnights. I walked with people into Great Harbour to Corsairs late in the day. Anyone at White Bay,
Charlene, Darlene, Rumahl or Renee can get ya a cab later if you need to get into Great harbor and are staying the night.
