Another car rental question

Post by Greenskeeper »

We're coming into STT at 2:00 on a Friday and our flight departs the following Saturday at 5:30. Do you all suggest that we rent the jeep on STT so we have it on Saturday to explore STT or should we just rent in STJ and drop off before we head back to STT for our flight? How is the car ferry over? Do you book passage beforehand or is a "wait in line" ferry service. We're going to be there President's Week so I'm assuming it will be busy.

We're planning doing carry on only so hauling luggage isn't a concern.

To me the traffic on STT is terrible  and renting on St John is an easier experience. Also what happens if you rent on STT and the car breaks down on STJ?

We prefer renting on STT because it is less expensive and we can load up on groceries on STT (also less expensive) before heading to STJ.

You can't pre-arrange the car ferry, you line up and wait.

The only thing I don't like about renting on STT would be if we were to have car trouble it would really suck. But we have been fortunate so far so we keep renting on STT.

How are the ferry lines? I've only had to ferry a car to Martha's Vineyard and it can be a nightmare wait.

Anyone had trouble with a car from STT on STJ? How was the problem taken care of?

I rent new vehicles from Dependable and have never had a problem. When all of the car ferries are running the wait seems to be minimal.

We have never had a car breakdown on us in the last 35+ years of driving. While breaking down is possible we don't think it's probable.
