Best resturants for...

Post by Rebecca in NOVA »

I know folks often ask for restaurant recommendations, but considering the changing landscape I was wondering about folks' latest thoughts on:

* best restaurant for romantic anniversary dinner with view (& what time for a reservation to view sunset?)
* best restaurant where your squirmy toddler is welcome
* best place to get takeout when you don't feel like corralling your squirmy toddler but don't want to cook either.

Thanks for the input! Only two weeks til our trip, heaven...

We thought Shipwreck Landing was great with kids, we got there early, around 5:30 and it was perfect. Pastory Gardens was kid-friendly too. Have never been to STJ w/out kids, so can't speak to the romantic restaurant. Cafe Roma had decent takeout pizza. Have fun!

1. Zozo's for the sunset and the food (check weather.com for sunrise/sunset times)
Chateau Bourdeaux has a great view of Coral Bay, but no sunset (get a window table!)
2. no comment
3. Uncle Joe's for us!!

* best restaurant for romantic anniversary dinner with view (& what time for a reservation to view sunset?) Zozo's!

* best restaurant where your squirmy toddler is welcome - we went to Rhumblines and were pleasantly surprised by the kid options (very casual with live music the night we were there), Shipwreck, Banana Deck, Lime Inn. Really most of the restaurants are fairly kid friendly, esp. if you go on the earlier side.

* best place to get takeout when you don't feel like corralling your squirmy toddler but don't want to cook either. Uncle Joe's BBQ & Ronnie's Pizza

I gotta comment on all the Uncle Joes replys. Here's a little story. We had to have the A/c fixed while at our villa ( Doug the owner got right on it) well the guy who showed up to fix it was kinda a know it all but we got to talkin about cheap places to eat and I mentioned Joe's he had nothin but bad things to say about the place. I said they have quite a following ya know. He says they ain't got no following and I left it at that ya can't argue with those types. Just thought it was funny all the peeps that said Uncle Joes he must not read the forum

You'll love the sunsets and early drinks at Zozo's before eating some of their great calimari and osso bucco. Our favorite when we want to dine.

As to Kirk's regarding Uncle Joes. I guess it's all in what you think good BBQ is. I never thought his was good. I think the love of his food is that it's cuz of where you're eating the stuff. It's parboiled and placed on the grill to finish and that ain't BBQ. Caveat, I will eat it.

Candy's wasn't open when we were there last year so will try in on next trip. This year it's Ireland for a couple of weeks. I can't believe there will be any good BBQ there unless they do it with mutton.

Probably not BBQ in Ireland, Promoguy, but I did have the best Asian-fusion food I've ever had at a place called Mao's in Dublin. Go figure! :)

We LOVE Ireland, Have a wonderful time and if this is your 1st visit you'll be surprised by the excellent food there. No more 101 ways to serve taters

Just like there are many shades of blue in the USVI...you will be in awe at all the shades of green!

I'm jealous for sure.

I'll be awaiting your review...

Take care and have a safe trip. When are you going?

Regarding Uncle Joes and Candies for BBQ...

I was thinking that would be a great option for arrival day. No one has to cook, and once we get to Vistaero on that 1st afternoon I'm afraid the blender will be whizzing away for the 1st sunset and just really mesmerized by the views :D So I'm thinking no one will want to go out for dinner then.

Does anyone know their hours of operation and do you just show up or can you call ahead?

Oh and we're on island are they located?

Thanks guys.

Enjoy,
Kathy

Restaurants in Google Earth maps...

Post by sherban »

Kathy- Uncle Joe's Bar-BQ is located in this list of restaurants...don't know where Candies is...but I'll add it if someone describes where it is...

I'd suggest dowwnloading Google Earth if you don't have it yet...it is really cool for checking out where stuff is...if you don't have it you can still use the Google Maps version of the STJ restaurant list...

Kathy thats exactly what we did our first night watched the sunset and chowed down on Uncle Joes. Candies is on the road to Starfish right on the left before ya get to Starfish. We like Uncle Joes better but Candies was tasty too :D I"ve only had the chicken at both so can't speak for the ribs but I hear there good.
Promo didn't say Uncle Joes was the best bbq in the world but it's pretty damn good for $12 half a chicken and two sides especially on St John 8) 8)
