Hoppin' Bars and Bar Hoppin' ?

Post by sherban »

I'm beggining to gear up for our June trip and need some guidance. My wife and I like to go out and "shake our booties" (dance) from time to time and I'm wondering...

Where are the best bets (bars) in STJ for people to be dancing?

How about STT?

Appreciate any inputs on this, thanks!

I may be the only one to feel this way, but this is why I miss the Duffy's Love Shack in St. John, as this was a good spot for dancing. Janie and I also like to dance. We're not good, like Pia, in fact we're nothing like that even remotely, but we enjoy it:) On this last trip, we relied on impromptu dancing at Woody's--- generally late at night when everyone had been drinking long enough it didn't matter. Also, if there is a band playing anywhere---Beach Bar, Larry's, Front Yard----there will generally be dancing. Or you could always take the ferry over to catch Ladies Night at Duffy's Love Shack in St. Thomas. Or you can crank the tunes up in your villa and have a dance party at home.

Fred's used to have dancing. I am not sure if they still do as it was about 15-20 years ago that I went dancing there. It was a blast. Local bands and local people lots of drinking and shaking going on.

On our last 2 trips, Sputniks in Coral Bay had reggae bands on Thursday nights and there was definitely some hip shakin' goin' on around the patio...

Sherban, you did not say when in June you will be arriving on St. John? If towards the end of June you are in luck with the St. John 4th of July Festival it is a great time to go out and "shake you booties." J'Ouvert everyone dances in the street!!, until sun rise! During the month of June until July 4th there is a lot of live music at many of the bars in town. I have given a list of the Festival schedule as reported in Tradewinds.

(Fred's is across from the Lime Inn - middle of Cruz Bay)

Check http://seestjohn.com/arts_music.html for live music. Our favorite spot for dancing is the Front Yard (young crowd, goes late), Beach Bar and Sputnik. When Fred's has a band it is hopping. I see Cool Sessions is playing this Friday! Weekends are generally a better bet.

Carl, the owner of the Front Yard has taken over the old Chilly Billy's place and named it after his son, Jake. They serve a great breakfast up there thanks to Casper the chef, who also works with me on occasion.

He told me that Jouvert (July 4th) will be the Front yard's last day open.

BJ- Thanks for the inputs, we'll be there 6/21-28 so some of those things will be going on while we are there...

Rick- Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Matt- Looks like we may be able to check out the front yard before it closes...

June soon come...
