Hi sailorgirl,

That's an interesting article. We have an artificial reef off of Sarasota that is made of concrete/loved ones ashes. They're round with holes and set up as a reef. Hubs and I thought it was a pretty clever idea, but only briefly discussed it. The SRQ one isn't as elaborate as the one in MIA.

Seeing as he LOVES the water and is a Pisces I think it would be a perfect place PLUS you'd be helping out the marine life.

This link below actually has a listing of all the eternal reefs along the east coast.

This is a very interesting idea! I've always thought that once I'm gone I should be cremated and not take up space anymore (leave green space for the living!) so this is an interesting alternative. Maybe kind of grim to think about, but it's reality.

If it's as big of a benefit to marine life as advertised, the name on the plaque won't be visible for too long - it will be grown over with coral.

So your loved ones had better get that picture within the first year or so!

I think that's what is so great about it! Otherwise it's just more man-made stuff taking up space.

Here's a thought... if there is a large storm or hurricane, the markers will be covered by sand or swept away to who knows where. That wouldn't matter to me, but to some people it might. Mother Mother Ocean redecorates from time to time.
