Last minute questions about restaurants Satyamuna & Vie'
Only 3 more days till wheels up!!
Hopefully no one 'moves the island' per last night's episode of Lost.
Anyway...
Has anyone eaten at Satyamuna? My Mom's a vegetarian and we'd like to take her there for her Birthday. Are they open for dinner?
And does anyone know what days Vie's is open in May. I know she keeps an interesting schedule.
Thanks as always for all the great information.

Also try the truck Firefoods at the Coral Bay triangle - not for a special dinner of course, but if you are out and about during the day. They serve wonderful vegetarian food and it is probably not somewhere you would think of stopping but it is very good with some local dishes she would probably not experience at home
As far as Vie's - it is best to call her to check if she is open especially as we head further into off season - after 3 years I have only managed to eat there once due to driving out there during her normal hours and finding a paper plate stuck to her window saying things like......"Kitchen Closed Today" or "Gone To St Thomas" or "At a Birthday Party"

Pia - Can you post Vie's number, please? We didn't stop last year, but it's on our list of things to do this time. She was open last July when we drove by. Hope we didn't miss our chance! Thanks.Pia wrote:

When the end of the world comes, I want to be in Kentucky, because everything there happens 20 years after it happens anywhere else. – Mark Twain
It's so funny, I can hear people saying things like "no way am I eating from a truck" but you will miss out on fabulous food if you don't try it.
Jewels truck - right on the corner - is rumored to have the best fried chicken - again never had a chance to eat any as they are sold out by noon and sometimes well before that - all the locals eat there (well there and Firefoods
) and I just can't seem to be ready for lunch at 11am
Give both a try - you won't be dissapointed

We always like to get some local food when we're on STJ. There are lots of places that most visitors miss out on. A few West Indian places have managed to tap into the tourist market, but many others haven't gotten much of that pie. Pia already mentioned the small truck/stand operations at the triangle in Coral Bay. The nearby Sputnik bar also has food sometimes and is a good place to stop for a drink and a very local experience. They also have live music sometimes. In Cruz Bay there are some small cart/truck/stand operations around the pavilion and the post office (Shela's and Patrick's). Hercules has good local food and Sogo's is a favorite of ours for dinner. We also liked Sosa's, but it's closed as have an awful lot of places lately. Mooie's is a good place to stop for a drink and a real local experience.
We always like to spend a day in the East End snorkeling at Haulover then around Vie's. We've always found her open, but are always prepared for her to be closed and bring some food and drink with us.

A word of caution, if you're going to go to Satyamuna for dinner, call first. We showed up there tonight at just about 7:00, pretty psyched for their food...and it was closed. 7:00 on a Friday night?
I had intended tonight to be my first night as a vegetarian, but Satyamuna being closed forced me to Candi's for more charred meat. (Truth be told, we were kind of bummed by all of it.)

Shabat, perhaps they are Israeli, if I'm not mistaken.Pete (Mr. Marcia) wrote:A word of caution, if you're going to go to Satyamuna for dinner, call first. We showed up there tonight at just about 7:00, pretty psyched for their food...and it was closed. 7:00 on a Friday night?

Ah, good point. He is Israeli, her roots are Italian. It makes sense that they would close at sundown. Good catch.sailorgirl wrote:Shabat, perhaps they are Israeli, if I'm notPete (Mr. Marcia) wrote:A word of caution, if you're going to go to Satyamuna for dinner, call first.
