Day Six - Kate's Walk of Woe, Lunch at Caneel, Hawksnest and a Woody's Wedding

Today is a sad day for our group. One of the Cousins has to leave :( My cousin Kate is a little spitfire (standing just 4'9"). I love her so much and I think this trip has been more special for Kate than for any of us. You see, Kate's wonderful husband JJ died suddenly when Kate was pregnant with their second son. JJ was the love of her life and it has been a hard 7 years raising her boys alone while grieving her husband. With the exception of a few girls' weekends, this is the first trip Kate has had without her kids since JJ passed, so we all really wanted this to be a special trip for her. I am happy to report that Kate had an absolutely FABULOUS time and plans to return next year!

After we drop off Kate for her Walk of Woe, we head off to Caneel for lunch. Wow! What a place. We had a fabulous lunch at the Beach Grill, with an amazing view. Finally, some food porn! The appetizer of truffle oil and parmesan fries went too fast for me to get a pictures, but the mozzarella salad, turkey panini and cheeseburger all got rave reviews.

We stopped off at the beach for a few minutes, but I really didn't feel comfortable there, so we headed of to one of my favorites - Hawksnest. Ahhh.

Dora and Vasco were on dinner duty tonight, cooking up some ribs. They told us to take our time so we made a quick stop at Woody's for Happy Hour (surprise, surprise) and head on up to Vistaero. Had a lovely dinner on the deck and then four of us head back in to town.

We head over to the Beach Bar and chat with Fletcher (who was very sad that Kate had left, she was his favorite :( ). Fletcher sends this message to Kate and we head out, figuring we'd stop for one at Woody's.

Well, no sooner had we secured a table inside at Woody's and ordered our Blonde Sluts, when a few surrey buses pull up spilling what is obviously a gaggle of wedding guests into the street. This was a true island wedding, the bride is of the Schnell Studios family and the groom is of the Soggy Dollar Bar family. What a fabulous group!!

We had such a great time with them, that we ended up closing Woody's! Another first! Here's a shot of Chad (or is it Todd :? ) during the closing ceremony. Does anyone know the song they sing at closing time, cause we sure didn't.

Back home to Vistaero and some stargazing in the hot tub. Wow, what a day!!

You know, I have been to St John three times and I have never been to Woody's. I'll have to go this time.
I seem to go to the same places over and over. I like the Beach Bar.

Hey, Hey Paula...

Another GREAT TR!! God bless Kay...I'm so happy she will be back to have fun with you.

Another one here for Hawksnest, I love that place as well! :)

I would LOVE to run into you and your group, but I know we won't be on island at the same time next year cuz we've booked the same place.

Enjoy,
Kathy

It is such a small world. My husband and I had been admiring Donald Schnell’s artwork for a few years and vacationing on STJ every summer and then we found out that my cousin (who lives in Chicago) is good friends with him and his wife.

That 6 degrees of separation thing is crazy!

Sounds like my kind of day---nice lunch, great afternoon at Hawksnest, and a late night at Woody's. What could be better?

Love your trip report. We also stayed at Vistero and loved it. It's fun to look at your pictures of the house and say that we've been there. Keep the trip report coming!
