I'm taking a month between finishing one job and starting the next; it will be a long while if ever that I get this opportunity again, so I thought I'd make the most of it. After this it will be grabbing a week here and there... assuming that we'll want to go back, which I'm guessing from what I hear is absolutely YES.
We've done beach trips in the past, Thailand, Maui, Mexico but the mellow laid back thing here appeals so much. Looking forward to snorkling and possibly recertifiying for scuba - it's been awhile. Also frozen drinks on the deck... I'm not sure about surfing, I haven't heard any mention of that yet.
Hopefully hurricane season will be merciful, that's good advice about the insurance thing. I heard on the news a couple days ago that this year is supposed to have a fairly active hurricane season but somewhere else I read that the islands don't often get hit (knock on virtual wood).
I had the view from Villa serenity up as my desktop background as I was doing some intense studying for some exams; the view was my happy place and kept me sane. Can't wait to see it for real!
Cheers all.

Does anyone know where I can buy some hurricane kryponite? :) I thought I saw some on the St. John Spice website.

If Ruth doesn't have a hot sauce named Hurricane Kryptonite, then someone ought to invent it! What a great name for a hot sauce! LOL!

Welcome To The Forum!

We will be on island in July for the last 2 weeks. We have gone in July for the past couple of years. It is a little hot, but we like that. The water is warm and the island is not so busy. We just went in March (Spring Break) and I was in shock of how busy the island was. You will have a wonderful time. St. John is just Simply Beautiful! Enjoy! :)

Welcome! While enjoying the ferry ride from STT to STJ, when you see what looks like my avatar in the near distance, you are almost there. I don't think I could stay a whole month...............that is, I would never leave after that length of time. Have a wonderful time in July. In the meantime, again, welcome to the forum. Ali~

Thanks again all for the extremely warm welcome. Just to update, we were looking for something near Cruz Bay for the first couple weeks, a place we could be at and not need a car. Star villa was the one we settled on - it seems to have been on many peoples list of possibles for locations near Cruz Bay, but I couldn't find any write ups on it. Looks pretty good though: http://www.starvillasflorida.com/starvilla (and they have a pack & play crib for our daughter which was a bonus). The last two weeks we're at Villa Serenity with two other couples and I think it will be a nice change of pace. Now all I have to do is get my avatar and trip ticker set up and hopefully that will get me set to upgrade from newbie member to forum regular.

Glad you made up your mind but I'd rethink the no car thing you will miss out on so much depending on taxis

Ask St.JohnRuth about Star Villas. I believe she has some first-hand knowledge :D

Ksea, I await your review with baited breath. Overall, the reviews on Trip advisor sound pretty positive with the occasional negative review thrown in. I was not disuaded.

Darmu, I felt the positive reviews were more believable than those couple of rants! If our wireless internet cards work at the villa, I will try to post live trip reports with info on Star.
