Crazy things you do to remind you of STJ when not there?

Post by flip-flop »

I do a couple of maybe odd, maybe not odd, things when I am not in STJ to remind me of the island I love.

I make a new playlist everytime I go, so I can put on that particular playlist and it will transport me back to that particular trip. Amazing how your musical taste evolves over time. That STJ 2005 playlist is pretty different from the STJ 2007 one but they are still both good!

I have a print of Haulover in my kitchen.

I try to wear a particular scent or use a particular shampoo when I am there so everytime I use it at home it reminds me of being there.

Even with all of this ... I am suffering severe STJ withdraw symptoms. What other coping mechanisms should I be trying :)

My friends already think I'm crazy (literally) about STJ, and I admit that it's true. In my kitchen, I have the little palm tree that I purchased at Walgreen's at Christmas. (Thanks to Connie's post last year.) It's decorated with my STJ ornaments and has a little glass jar filled with sand under it. The jar has "STJ" and a turtle painted on it which reminds me of Maho where we saw our first STJ turtles munching on the seagrass. Every time I look at my "STJ shrine", I think, "July soon come!"

I also recommend plenty of fruity rum drinks in a hand painted STJ glass! 8) :)

For Valentine's Day my hubby got me a Dip sign. Really ~ he went to the Traffic Dept. of our Township and bought a Dip sign for me! He hung it in the garage right in front of my space so everyday when I pull in or out of the garage it's staring me in the face.

I actually got some clear paper (like for overhead projectors) and stuck words on each. One says "crab", one says "shit", etc. Then I stick them on the Dip sign. I change them up every couple weeks so I get to see all the signs of STJ.

Crazy huh?

I carry the plastic credit-card type thing from our 1995 Caneel honeymoon in my wallet.

Also, our son's room is St. John themed with framed photos I took over the years and shadow boxes full treasures.

I try to limit my wearing of BBW Coconut Lime Verbena body spray to STJ vacations. A wiff of it always brings a smile to my face :D .

I have two Barr Lewis prints on the wall opposite my bed so I see them everyday multiple times a day.

I'm on this forum more times than I'd like to discuss.

I have a picture of Haulover as my desktop screen.

I talk about STJ all the time....

Apparently I have a problem! I need to join STJA.

LOL @ LysaC. I call it STJ-OCD. When some friends of ours passed STJ on a day sail from Tortola earlier this month, she said her son looked over and said, "I thought it would be glowing from the way Pam talks about it."

We purchased tiki torches like the ones at Bongo Bongo. We light our torches and listed to our STJ playlists. Almost like being there... almost.

We also come here daily and start planning the next trip to keep our sanity!

Yay, there are people crazier than me :) I won't name names. Randy -- ROFL!

I park in the left handed garage space. Does that count?

I make my friends painkillers with St. John Spice fresh nutmeg on top and serve them in the Soggy Dollar cups (I bring them to the beach in Jersey - not the same but it helps a bit).

I have a Steve Simonsen calendar in my office that I often stare at.

I spend too much time here and on the webcams.

Finally, I always try to have a trip booked or at least know when I'm going back. Very soon, it's for 2 weeks but after this, it won't be until February 2009.

Sign me up for STJA too!

Try Rum - more Rum - and even more Rum. That should remind you of STJ.

Let's see...where do I begin?? We have a coffee table with a glass top that has room to display things. Inside it, we have a Virgin Islands license plate that we purchased, and the following stickers: STJ, BVI, Soggy Dollar Bar, Woodys, JVD, Foxy's, and some glass jars of sand. One of my bathrooms is done in a Caribbean/beach theme. In my office at work, I have the Cruz Bay map framed and hanging over my desk so that everytime I look up, I see it along with two pictures from JVD. I have the webcam and this message board saved to Favorites at work and at home.

Am I obsessed or what???? :D
