I have to admit that I'm more of a lurker than a poster. Trying to break that! 1% is probably right if everybody is like me. :D

Theresa Rae,
If you are asking what percentage of regular visitors to the USVI post to or read ANY forums, I can tell you the number is much smaller than you think. Of course I talk to many people every day who are aware of these forums, whether they are participants or "lurkers". A large percentage of villa owners also have an awareness, though they may not necessarily participate.
I meet a lot of people who read or post on these forums. I assure you that there are many many many people who visit the USVI regularly who are either unaware of these forums or uninterested. Of course, I do what I can to change that.

None of my friends or family research vacations as much as I do. Lots of people are fine picking a nice resort somewhere and sticking with that, others (like my parents' generation) like to use travel agents or go on group tours or cruises. I think some of my friends think I'm a bit nuts when I talk about 'what I learned about this place on the forum...' (But they like having someone organize a trip for them. Fine with me!)

There's so much information online and in books about travel, and I love reading up on potential destinations. But that's not for everyone. I think we're all a minority here. As for this forum, it's way more active than any other travel forums I've visited.

Sure, why not! :)

I guess what I was trying to get at is how likely are you to come across other forumites while on STJ if you don't deliberately seek them.

I would think that "regulars" would be much more likely to post here because they are really into STJ.
