Days to avoid Trunk?

Post by smilesfromMN »

Does anyone know which days Trunk Bay is most likely to be overrun with cruise passengers - or where I can find a schedule with that kind of info? Thanks!

I use this site to see how many ships are in a port on a given day:

I used that site too. I put in the dates that we were going to be on island, and then I sorted by date, and then I copied the schedules that it brought up and made a spread sheet and took it with us. That way we knew what days to lay low! Good luck!

Hi,

Based on our last trip, I'm not sure the cruise passengers are what is creating the "crowds" at Trunk.

In November, we arrived during "cruise" time, and it wasn't bad; it got most crowded after 3pm when the "cruise" folk were gone.

It may have been because the National Park service stopped collecting around 3pm; even though posted times are 4pm or 5pm.

Whenever you do go, spend some time snorkeling on the non-trail side of the island. Excellent variety or fish and good coral. On a calm day, get as close to the rocks as possible.

enjoy,

We have found it is more about the time of day than the day itself. Sure if there are no cruises in that is best, but you can avoid crowds even w/ cruises in.

We don't check the schedule we just go early. Typically get there around 8. Stay until we're ready to eat lunch. Once we were the only people on the beach, which was a great treat considering how popular Trunk is.

If you go to the top of this page and click on "Trip Planning" and then click on "Getting Here" you will find the cruise ship schedules. But to make it quick for you, here's the link:

Thanks everyone, for the tips/links. We are all early risers (well, ok, the kids are very early risers and therefore "we all" are early risers :? ), so it'll probably work really well for us to get to beaches early. I am just so excited!! Let's see: up early, out the door, and swimming, building sand castles, snorkeling and having fun with my husband and kids all before 9am OR up early, make breakfast, make lunches, throw in a load of laundry, round up a preschool show-and-tell item, answer the phone five times, change the laundry, feed the dog, unload/load the dishwasher, and get out the door for preschool before 9am... hmmm, not a tough choice! :D
