Sorry I missed the show.

That's too funny. Made me think of the Buffett tune "Tin Cup Chalice". Ever heard it? "I wanna be there"....
Going "home" again October 26th!
20/20 has shows that are called "What would you do". I watched it last night and couldn't stop thinking about that guy on the beach.
Maybe it will make us all think about helping somebody in that condition.
What worried me the worse was that he was in the sun so long. He really must be in bad shape today.

Interesting story this. We get off the ferry, take our shoes off, go to the beach and there is this poor guy. Ruth meets us, tells us the tales of the day on this forum (hey, we've been traveling since 2:40 am, we don't know anything about this saga).
Sorry, no sandscrit. However, he DID have crutches, he was taken care of by local folks and police.
It's all okay.
btw, we are on the archives
Now, back to paradise. Day one. Cloudy but nice.

I was not going to day anything but I have to. This happens all the time on island, just not in front of the webcam. It is very easy for people to "escape the real world" and move to the VI. Many people end up having a wonderful experience but there are many that just find it too easy to be drunk all day and things take a bad turn and they end up passed out on the beach.
I would like to say that it doesn't happen often and that when it does happen, everyone on island jumps to the rescue, but it is just not the case. Do I feel for the man that was "sleeping" it off? Of course I do but only to a certain extent. I have seen too many people "fall of the deep end" after moving to the VI, there is only so much that you can do. People make their own choices, good or bad.
I am sorry that I posted about this in the first place. Perhaps people were exposed to a side of the island that made them uncomfortable. It was not my intention. I apologize for pointing out this part of island life.

I don't think that anybody is naiive enough to think that this stuff isn't going on in St. John, however I think that when it is blatantly in front of you on the webcam, you would only hope that someone would at least moved him out of the dangerous sun. Someone else made a comment that no one would leave a dog there that long, and I think that's true.

This post really bothers me.
This sh*t exists all over the island and all over your home towns. I guess it sucked that you had to see it on the webcam.
If you worried about this particular fellow, why not pick up your phone and call the STJ police? If you worry about those in your own town just like him, why not volunteer or contribute to a homeless shelter or food pantry.
"Someone should do something." How about that someone being you.
Edited...nevermind...I really don't care all that much.
