How to: St John to Water Island

Post by sandollar »

We are thinking of doing a day trip from St. John to Water Island (NPS). Has anyone done this? Would be interested in your impressions, ideas etc. Trying to find a ferry schedule presumably from STT to Water Island. Any suggestions? Thanks.

we've been to STJ many times.....like 6 or 7...but....when we had a 1 year old...we decided to stay ON water island for the pool and proximity to the beach.....

but we did a couple day trips to our favorite stj......it is a complicated triangle of a water ferry(small boat) to St thomas....cab ride to Charlotte amalie or red hook, then the Ferry to st.john......

takes a while....what part were you going to see? Honeymoon beach? Water island is nice...but st john has better...jmo....

the fun part was a barbecue night on the beach.....gosh, I can't remember the name..maybe Heidi's? She pulls up and cooks the most delicios meals and there are tiki torches and good food right on the beach.

The other cool thing was a pizza boat that pulled up and made pizza for you on the boat. cool...

Other than that..honeymoon beach was pretty....but probably not worth the trip from st. john.

****just want you to know that we stayed at the property right next to honeymoon and had a great time. Water island is nice.....very nice...but secluded and quiet (just what we needed with a 1 year old).....
(and I was newly pregnant....and tired and queasy.....yeah...not the trip I had planned on! LOL

The ferry from the Westin docks in Crown Bay a few yards from the Water Is. Ferry. It would be extremely easy if the times match close enough both ways.

Hassel Island is the one that is NPS, not Water Island, if that's what you meant?

St John - Water Island

Post by sandollar »

Hi Everyone - thank you so much for all the valuable info! We are in the beginning stages pulling this together and hubby is very interested in war history and, (in this case WWII). Ron USVI thanks to you also. I assumed Water Is. was part of NPS - oops - appreciate your picking up on that! SO, we now would like to do both Hassel and Water Islands and any others in this catagory. New revision: Is there a ferry to Hassel and can anyone give additional details for Newbees? We are planning on St. John (will be our 3rd time) and then some day trips; or, ? maybe it's better to stay on STT and do the day trips and then add STJ on either end? I am not able to bike (hip problem) but would be interested in a taxi tours, if it's possible. Honeymoon Beach @ WI sounds great with their food service. The ferry service link was great and have printed it out! These boards are wonderful.
