just returned....question for charitable contribution

Post by mdcoles1 »

I have been thinking alot since my recent trip that I would like to make a donation to a worthy STJ cause in thanks for the wonderful vacation my family recently had. Can someone who is a local give me some idea of a need and contact info. I would be especially interested in the schools or something for kids.. we're not talking about big bucks...just a small thank to the people of stj for sharing their beautiful home with me...

Call Connections -- 340-776-6922 for some local suggestions from their knowledgeable staff. They can give you some names and phone #'s and are 100% honest and involved locally.
What a fine and generous gesture on your part - you can be sure it is appreciated and much needed.
Ask for Cid Hamling at Connections, the owner.

Pia helped collect toys at Christmastime for kids in the area. She will probably have some good suggestions for you. She will probably see your post, but if not you might send her a pm.

There is the Ruby Rutnik Foundation. The Rutniks are friends that lost a daughter in a car accident many years ago when she was in college. They created this foundation in her memory to raise scholarship money for local girls. See a related article here. I would be happy to put you in touch with them, send me a PM. They hope to make it a self sustaining scholarship fund.

I have another idea if that doesn't interest you.

I aways give money to the St John Animal Care Center http://www.stjohnanimalcarecenter.com/. They are right across from the public library in Cruz Bay, They feed, spay and neuter the feral cats and arrange adoptions for the dogs and cats on the island. It was the compromise we reached when hubby got tired of me packing the 10lb bag of kitty chow every time we went to St. John. Now, we just have to run by the shelter every time we go so I can hand over the $$. Wagapalooza used to occur at Skinnys during our "week" on St. John but no longer.

Another worthy organization is the Friends of The VI National Park. http://www.friendsvinp.org/
