Mary Beth - Condolences on the death of Danny Federici

Post by California Girl »

Mary Beth (and all you other Springsteen-ers) I was very sorry to read about the death of Danny Federici today. My condolences to all of you on the loss of your favorite band's keyboardist!

Very sad. The pride of Flemington NJ.
Been a fan for a LONG time (1975), first saw the band in 1978. Always loved when Danny came out front with the accordion for Sandy or Fire.

We went to the concert in Oct. A surprise for my husband. He has been a long time fan and so have I. I'm just grateful we went to that concert. Soon after he quit touring for treatment. My husband was shocked when I told him that Danny past away. E steet band will never be the same.

Sad day for sure - I thought of Mary Beth as soon as I saw the headlines. My hubby went to see him last month and I don't know if Danny was playing that show or not, but on the news report I heard they said he was playing with the band up until last month.

Condolences from WI too.

Oh man, so sad. Just listened to "The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle". "Greetings from Asbury Park" up next.
What a ride. A career most musicians can only dream about. Yea Danny Federici from Flemington, New Jersey.
Only Bruce Springsteen and his band will play at St. John Spice tomorrow while I'm in charge of the ipod.

In fact, I'm singing along with the headphones on AND I have a cold. I can't even imagine how bad I sound and I can't believe Ron hasn't told me to be quiet yet. I figure I'm good for a few more songs before I get the hook. (I hope the neighbors don't call.)

aw geez, thanks for thinking of me. a rough day over here on E Street. it's funny, we don't really know the man but it still feels like losing a member of the family. hard for people to understand but these guys have been a big part of my life for the last 25 years. and it's not them, the people, really, because I can't claim to know them but they are an interwoven part of my life's history. no doubt about it. hard to explain I guess.
Danny brought joy to a lot of people. Which isn't a bad thing in this world.

He left the tour on what was being called a leave of absence, back in November. however, he did make it to one show in Indianapolis less than a month ago. It seemed like a sign of hope but in hindsight it was what they all probably knew was a farewell. Danny's son wrote about it here. It was interesting to get the insight to that appearance in Indy.

It won't quite ever be the same. Sad day.

Nice article here

with this YouTube embed of last performance of Sandy.

E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici treated Indianapolis fans to a special appearance at Conseco Fieldhouse on March 20th. Danny's performance was a profound expression of the healing power of music and community, all the more poignant in light of his death just a few weeks later. Here, from the Indie show, is an excerpt from one of Danny's signature accordion performances on the rarely-played Sandy.

Danny's last show with the band was 11/19/07. I have a copy of the show. If anyone wants a copy, PM me with your name and address.
