Passport mix up

Post by DCphoto »

2 weeks ago, I sent away for a new passport which expires in October 08 and also to put in for a name change do to marriage. Last week I got everything back in the mail and said I didn't send a check for $75.00. Which I did.
I just got a phone call from the passport agency wondering why she has my check without my new application and photos.
So now I have to send everything to the person who has my check. At least she called and didn't cash my check.
So if you are applying for a passport leave plenty of time for mix ups as well. I was hoping I could get away for a trip in late may but I doubt now I will have anything in until June now.

With any luck they'll process it as soon as they get the two together. I've heard of renewals skating through in three weeks recently.

Another option, if you are willing to burn a day, is to go down the passport office on K Street. They'll do same day processing and renewals are easier. I've had friends do the "oh my God my passport is expired and I'm traveling in 12 hours" exercise successfully.

My renewal took less than two weeks to get back to me recently. I was quite surprised how fast they are moving. Hopefully, you'll get yours back within 10 days especially since they made a mistake.

Thanks Rick, I thought about going down to DC at first, but I thought I could get away with just mailing it. I think I'm stuck going through this person since she has my check in hand. Hopefully it won't take too long, was really hoping to get a long weekend in the Bahamas. I'm burnt out covering the presidential race. I'm spending a lot of time in Philadelphia lately. Going back again on Sunday for the primary.

Sandi,

Follow up your mailing by calling your contact person and ask to have your passport overnighted to you. When applying for our passports, the agent at the post office failed to sign and our daughter's application and it was delayed. Once they had realized the error, all was corrected quickly and they overnighted it to us AMAZINGLY at their cost!!! It took about 5 days in total to visit the post office again and then have it delivered. Let them know you are traveling shortly.

There is hope for a nice weekend for you!!!!

I keep procastinating getting hubs and my passport renewed. Sounds like most of you have had a pretty quick response time though which is encouraging seeing as I leave for the USVI on June 7th!! :D

However, seeing as we won't be heading to any of the BVI this trip, d'ya think I could use my passport that expires in May JUST for ID purposes??
I hate the thought of using my drivers lic and birth cert instead...in case I don't make the renewal in time

Anyone have any input?

Thanks,
Kathy
