AA changed our flights...yay

Post by VayCay »

:::EDITED TO REMOVE THE CURSE I PUT ON AA:::: they changed our flight so that we would arrive on STT at 6:30pm instead of noon....well after the last ferry has set sail for STJ...Anyone have any experience with this?? is it possible to get AA to change our flight for a more favorable arrival time? if not what about getting a private water taxi...? is that like a small fortune??? AHHHH ***pulling hair out***

The ferry out of Red Hook runs late. Last one out leaves for St John at midnight. Just take a taxi over to Red Hook which is what most people do anyway. This is much cheaper than private water taxi which I believe starts at $100.00.

If there is a different flight available, yes, you can call and request to be put on that one since they made such a major change to your schedule.

Unfortunately, it has almost become the norm to have changes to your flights. Just read the On-StJohn web site about their delays in Philly. With the mess that just went on with American, I'll be just glad to arrive on the island the day I'm supposed to  . We are flying US Scareways.

Don't worry...rdb1204 is right: last ferry out of Red Hook is midnight, so barring any road blocks, you should make it, although it will be late. Expect to catch the 8 (if you're lucky) or 9 boat if you're landing at 6:30.

Water Taxi

Post by Rastadog »

We've used the private water taxi service before. They are very reliable. It's really convenient and the way to go if you want to get to STJ in a hurry. The convenience comes with a price, expect to pay $120-150. They can easily accommodate 8 people plus luggage.

PHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEW!!!.... 8)

Called American this morning and to my delightful surprise they were SUPER accommodating and switched our flight for us w/o question. In fact instead of having 2 connections we only have one now and instead of going through MIA, and SJ we are going direct from JFK now we will be landing in STT at noon again...Hoorah! Now i REALLY feel like we are getting a steal on this flight...Paid $612 for two round trip tickets in november and if we booked now it would have cost us more than double @ $1400...Ty for your advice and suggestions about catching the late ferry in RH as i was not aware it went that late. For once a disaster was averted...Please let this be a warning to people who assume what they book will be there when they get to the airport and check your reservations regularly...If this dust-up w/mechanical failures hadn't happened, i probably would not have checked until june. We would have showed up at LAX to find out we had an 8hr layover in miami and would not be in STT till dark. being stuck in trouble w/out forum help to guide us through would have put a serious ding in our vacation.

TY again for your kind suggestions,

VayCay :D

I've had the same thing happen repeatedly with AA. I just expect it from them. In my experience, I only see schedule change notification from them within 30 days or if I book via Orbitz.
