Has anyone been recently? What do they serve and is it worth it?

you know those are 2 different things, right? the grand buffet is on Monday nights when they are having it. I think they stop it at some point off season. It's $69 per person and I did a restaurant review when I was there back in November, if you want to check it out.

Both are fabulous...fresh fruits and vegetables of all kinds, fresh breads, a variety of sweets, etc. The Grand Buffet is my pick because of the fresh seafood: lobster, crab, mussels, clams, shrimp, salmon, tuna, sushi, mahi mahi...all on the buffet. There's also chicken and steak offered, along with cakes, ice cream and puddings for dessert, warm bread, and all the trimmings for salads. The quality is excellent. For the variety and quality offered, the $69 price is not bad. Plus you have Caneel's pleasant atmosphere and very attentive staff. Yum...

The Grand Buffet sounds interesting. Are reservations necessary in July and how far out must one reserve for a table for 4? I assume the $69 does not include tip? If one is coming to the dinner and arrives much earlier to explore the grounds and maybe even take a swim would the management mind?

I was disappointed in the equator restaurant at cannel last week service was disappointing and the food was just OK.

I have to agree w/ waterguy about Equator restaurant. We too were disappointed w/ quality of food as well as service. BUT we did the Mon PM seafood buffet and were quite pleased w/ that. We did have reservations in Jan but it was not busy and we didn't really need them. I would do the Mon nite buffet but the other restaurant needs some work food-wise as well as service.

Is there a place to change /shower if you spend the day at their beach and then do Monday night buffet? Would save a trip back to the villa, dreaming wife and girls would want to go back and get ready.

My son and I would get our money’s worth.

Caneel is one of the beaches my wife would like to go to. When it was still a Rock resort she wanted to say she went to all three. (She worked at his other two resorts Woodstock VT and summer in Wyoming during high school / college).

I actually find that the Ritz has a GREAT sunday brunch.

The last time I went about two years ago it was $50, with $15 bottomless mimosas. Factor in the cost of transport, and it's still not bad.

They had lobster tails, raw or Rock-a-fella oyster bar, rack of lamb, Prime Rib, foie gras station, sushi, mini creme brulee, tiny eclairs, and more. Plus, whenever you say thank you to someone, they are required to say "It's my pleasure", instead of "no problem", "you're welcome" or "yeah, uh-huh".

There are nice public bathrooms that are spacious enough to get changed in. There is a large dressing/toiletry area in them where the ladies could fix their hair etc.

I don't remember seeing showers anywhere, but that does not mean they don't exist. There are foot showers just off the beach.

there is a shower area but I think it is only for guests. we used it the day we checked out but we had been on the beach and what not then moved on to our villa. we had to get a key to the shower area from the front desk.
