Caribbean music - steel drum or other - for iPod?
Traveling to St. John this summer (woo hoo!!!). Looking for some recommendations on steel drum or reggae - or other Caribbean-like music - to fill my iPod with. Any suggestions?

The Putumayo CDs are also really good. I love the French Caribbean one! http://www.putumayo.com/en/shop_catalog ... submenu=S5

The rendition of "I shot the sheriff" is a chuckle.California Girl wrote:I'm partial to Victor Provost. Here's his website: http://www.victorpanman.com/

Inner Visions "Pack up your bundle" song is what we listen to to start the trip. "Mr. Blue Sky" is how we start a lot of days. That before bed glass of Ponche Kuba goes perfectly with "Echoes" by Pink Floyd.
The first Tuatara album "Breaking the Ethers" has killer original steel pan music. I've been taking that to the islands since 1999.

I don't know how many of the songs are on itunes, but we have this Trojan UK box set that we like to listen to while driving around:

There's a lot of good songs on there. Of course I left disc one in the jeep in October. Leaving cds behind is a bad habit of mine. I forgot my disc one from my Meet Me in Margaritaville set back in June. This time, I'm uploading everything to itunes and burning copies to bring for the car.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
