Car rental deal

Post by Connie »

Wanted to point out that you can take your car over to
STJ with Discount before you read the following
Budget = 457.46 for the week, 2 door jeep wrangler

Dependable = 398.74 for the week, 2 door jeep wrangler

Discount - 339.00 for the week, 2 door jeep wrangler

There's 12 of us, so we have to rent 3 of them. I've done my homework. I would never rent from Budget again, but I wanted to get their price. I had reservations at Dependable and then just hapened to call Discount. Very, very nice guy named Alex took our reservation. Right before that I emailed Dependable to see if they would match Discounts prices. They said no, they hadn't raised their prices in 8 years and they understood if I wanted to cancel. So, I will do that later.

I can't say enough about Alex from Discount. He was very very nice. He told me that when we land to call immediately and they will pick up the 3 drivers while the rest of the crew will wait for the luggage. The 3 drivers will fill out the necessary forms and then come back and get the other 9 in our party. Seems to work out well. They're basically at the end of the runway, so it seems like it's a good deal.

Dependable also charges 5.00 a day for an extra driver. Discount doesn't charge as long as drivers are married. Works for us for a 3 cars.

Just wanted to pass this on.

I heard good things about Discount when we were there in March. Something to remember, Dependable's vehicles are all pretty new. They keep them for about two years and then sell the used ones. I don't care about new looking (prefer one with some dents and scratches) but I want VERY reliable.

Rick, Discounts cars are all 2007's. Believe me, I've had some pretty nasty cars from Budget, couldn't get any worse.

Discount is also open till 10:00 pm. God knows what can go wrong when you're on vacation, but i'm pretty comfortable with this change. Save 180.00 bucks for all of us? That will pay (maybe) for a night a carrying on at either Molly's or Duffy's. Um, no, it won't, but it helps

Thanks for the great info.. I also will not use Budget again. I would be interested in knowing how it all worked in your TR.

Connie,

Do you know if that Jeep can be closed up and locked?

The last Wrangler we rented (from Budget) had no back windows! We felt like we could leave nothing inside the Jeep, not even locked in the glove box, as that was ripped open once - even tho' it wasn't locked!
I got a huge laugh out of the sticker on the windshield warning of a $50 cleaning fee if the seats got wet!

I called them directly. They don't have any rates on their website, so I just decided to try it.

339.00 for the week includes everything. He originally quoted me 325.00 for the week....I asked him anything else and he said 2.00 a day for some kind of tax.

Anyway...that's it!

A wrangler is a wrangler. That's the way i look at it. If somebody wants to get in there, they're gonna get in. I still love them and they're the best for the islands.

That being said, I have no idea about the windows. We had the same problem with Budget last November, but we got use to it.

Yeah, that 50.00 cleaning fee is rediculous considering the car we got was filthy to begin with.

Thanks for the info Connie -

We still haven't booked for the 10-12 of us for our June trip and were probably going to go with Dependable. This gives us another option. I'll see if they have mini-vans too as we originally wanted just two vehicles for our group.

Tracey....when you call ask for Alex. He was really a nice guy. If he's on the phone with someone else, he will call you back. I only had to wait about 5 minutes for a call back.

Good luck!
