Callaloo Villa STJ Review?

Post by RickG »

Hey gang, Christine and I are looking at Callaloo Villa for an April 28 week. Is anyone familiar with it? It is a 4 bedroom villa on the North-side above Coral Bay. While a 4 bedroom, it is reasonably priced for 2 people out of season.

Outdoor showers are niuce, but it was the outdoor toilet that caught my imagination. Now, that's nekkid time!.

I can't tell you anything about Callaloo, but after checking it out (review & websites) I think you've made a great choice! If the pictures reflect its current condition I'd rent it in a second!

We looked at Callaloo but I didn't think I could get past the outside toilet.

The villa looks great and I love the location, but I think the bugs would bother me too much.

Ya, no bathroom fan for me!

I think this is the West Indian looking house that you see up the hillside up a bit on the road down to Coral Bay. I imagine the cement trucks will be hitting the engine breaks in the morning, but we should already be up, right!?

I feel a little decadent considering a 4 bedroom house for 2 people. But, hey, the price is right and it's a good locale.

hey Rick, we stayed at Callaloo Villa in Nov. 2005. would go back in a heartbeat. It's open air, has the feel of sleeping outside. All the bathrooms are outside, but are completely private except for the lizards.I have several photo's I could send.

Pete, thanks much! You are the first person we've spoken to who has stayed there. I imagine we'll book tomorrow when folks get back in the VIVA office. Photos to rgarvin@garvin.us would appreciated. I owe you a beer.

I just have to chime in on the outdoor bathroom situation. Last April we stayed at La Barracuda, an older 3 pod villa above Chocolate Hole. One of the bedrooms had an outdoor toilet and shower. There was a resident, mean bird that was building a nest in the shower that would sqwak at poor Stacey whenever she used the bathroom. Then, one night, when Stacey got up around 2 a.m. to "use the facilities", when she turned on the light there was a frog in the toilet bowl :o :o She used another bathroom and when she looked again in the early a.m. ... there were 2 frogs frolicing in the toilet  I have to admit, we had tons of laughs about Stacey's wildlife roommates, but the experience has turned me off outdoor bathrooms!! The lesson here - always check the bowl before you sit
