This forum compared to....

Post by NoWorriesMom »

This forum is SO GREAT, compared to the one I found for our Hawaii trip, which sad to say is SO LAME! Poor me, we're going to Hawaii. I am only half joking when I say that! Any of you have thoughts on the Big Island (other than it is covered in vog right now)? Boo hoo, I want to go back to STJ.
The other forum has NO archives, No avatars, NO Jorge jokes or Friday beach pics, or Liamsaunt, RickG, Caligirl,Ruth, Pia, and all of you who make this forum so great. That's it, I'm planning a trip JUST so I can stop lurking.....
PS Anybody heard anything from FlaGeorge lately?

I loved the Big Island. It just takes so long to get there from Pa. We did our 25th anniv. on a 15 day Hawaii tour and re-newed our vows on the Big Island. My husband surprised me and it was at sunset and it was just us and the sea turtles were laying their eggs on the beach. It was so great...(Yes, I'm crying..) I do love the closeness of St. John and after visiting almost all of the islands this is still our favorite. Have a great trip!!

I don't know if you've used the TA BI forum, but I found it very helpful in planning our trip a couple of years ago. True, they don't have avatars and the other stuff that you mention, but I found a lot of very helpful people who were very welcoming and gave me great information and advice. There were a number of people who had been living there for quite some time and provided a real interesting perspective.

The forums where I've had the least success in getting help (or even much basic info) are for Barbuda. I believe that a good bit of the problem is just that not many people actually stay on the island, but I've really been able to get very little practical info. All of this just serves to make it even more intriguing to me.

I tried to liven up Anthony's Cayman Islands forum, to not much avail. Lots of people read my trip report & looked at my pictures, but no one posted a word. I found TA Grand Cayman forum very friendly with lots of knowledgable people who post there, but I don't like not being able to post pictures in my thread. Boo!

P.S. Thanks for the compliment :D

Thanks Jorge... :(

I think I am going to assign all the most active posters here to one of our dead forums and force you to keep posting on them until someone answers.

I remember suggesting Dominica to you (the island, not the forum!) when you were asking for some suggestions. Was I helpful for once, or is this just a coincidence?

Jorge - if you do plan a trip there, I'm not an expert on the island by any means (only been there twice, both times off of a cruise ship) but I can tell you some of the things I learned then, and when I did some research for a possible trip there (some day!)
Come see us!

Cap Kirk~
We lived on Oahu back '68-'71 and we did get vog at least once. It was very strange, rainy, smokey, and smelled like sulphur. Not good for our baby who coughed alot. Did not stunt his growth, he is 6'2" now and almost 40!
