Church Services in St. John

Post by 2Feathers »

We were thinking about attending a church service while we're on island this year and wondered if any of you have done this and what your experience was like? We would probably go to one of the Baptist churches...

Are the local churches receptive to tourists, and how do they typically dress for services? Does anyone have a good link to a listing of the churches/locations/service times? Thanks!

Ive seen this topic before. Xislandgirl posted I beleive. I recall seeing that dress code is important, as the locals dress up for church.

Here is a list of all the churches on STJ. While you do not have to dress up, I would recommend that you are respectful in your clothing choices. A sundress for women or a skirt and top (no tank tops) and shorts/pants with a collarded shirt for men.
No bathing suits and t-shirts.

My wife and a friend went to Nazareth Lutheran on Palm Sunday. They said it was a good service and they were very welcoming to visitors. Nazareth Lutheran is right in Cruz Bay, across from Connections, near Woody's.

Glad you're enjoying them. I'm enjoying reading my journal and re-living the experience now that I'm back in the chilly northeast.

Calvary Baptist Church?

Post by BabaAus »

My wife accepted an invitation to (what I thought was) Calvary Baptist Church about 100 yards down the road from Miss Lucy's. I was within earshot when she asked if the summer dress she was wearing would be appropriate and was told "Render your heart not your clothing". I didn't go because I was limping around on a very painful wasp(?) sting to the sole of my foot that I'd picked up at the beach he day before (only me!). It was a high point of my wife's vacation what with the always-very-friendly West Indian friends she met at the service. Though I never attend church, anymore, I regret that I missed out. By he sounds of it, I missed a good time. Next year for sure!
