STJ lovers are everywhere!

Post by Shari »

I went into our local dive shop (yes, we have dive shops in Ohio!) to look at snorkel gear today. We're beginners--been twice before on boat day trips--but figured that it would be just as cheap to buy the stuff vs. renting for the week we're on STJ. I wanted to compare prices with the sporting goods store. Turns out the dive guy, Joly, loves STJ, family owns a house on island, etc. He shows me all of the stuff we could possibly want including rash guard shirts and headband thingys for our masks, and then goes to the back room to print me out a copy of his favorite beaches, grocery stores, restaurants, bars, etc. He brings out a map and shows me exactly where Miles Away is, best route to the beaches, etc. Great guy! I'm convinced that there must be something addictive in the water down there--does anyone not love STJ?

If you've ever been on Tripadvisor, my forum name is stjohnbeachlover. I'm planning my sixth visit this summer!

Shari, what a small world, huh?? That is too cool and it is great that he helped you become familiar with St. John! I have heard good things about Miles Away.

We loved St. John. So much so, we always wanted to go to a different destination to try to experience as much as we can but we just could not find a place that compared to St. John and we are coming back.

Today a woman at church complimented my necklace and asked where I got it. I told her I bought in on St. John, and sure enough she had stayed at Maho a few years ago. Then we got to reminiscing about white sand beaches and sun...

Seems I keep meeting people who have been to STJ. Does this happen to anyone else? It bugs me when I hear someone say "St. Johns." I want to correct them but I don't want to sound like a travel snob.

A woman on my floor called me a few months ago and asked me if I had a few minutes to chat with her.

She told me that she had heard that I lived in the VI and was hoping I could help her with some vacation questions. I said sure and headed over to her desk. She started by asking me what island I lived on and I said St. John. She looked deflated and said "I feel bad now bothering you. We aren't going to St. John we will be in Cruz Bay"

I straightened her out and she just got back and sent me an email telling me that she is planning another trip already.
