later flight out, is there a place we can store our luggage?

Post by 3kidz4me »

We have a later flight out our last day and would like to leave St. John early and go to St thomas and site see for the day. Does anyone have any idea about where we can keep our luggage? What is the distance between the airport and the shopping/beach? Is it possible to check in at the airport/drop off our luggage and then site see from there? Or is it a logistically not a good idea? (our flight leaves at 3:00.) Thanks!

Good Morning,

If you have a 3pm flight you need to be at the airport no later than 1pm. Once you check in you then have to carry your luggage through US Customs and Immigration before you can "drop it off" but once you (and your luggage) have cleared, you are no longer allowed to leave the area, you must continue through security and onto the gate - so to answer one of your questions, no you can't check your luggage, and then site see.

You can ferry over from STJ and have the taxi driver hold your luggage for you while you shop on STT, and he will then meet you at a set time to take you to the airport - sounds weird I know - but they do it ALL the time.

Hope this helps.

What we do is drop our bags at the ferry dock and leave them with the porters. A $1 tip per bag makes them happy to see us. When you buy that Charlotte Amalie ferry ticket, you also get a ticket for each bag. The bags will right there by the gate waiting for you.

A tip that Bill in VA gave us for our November trip that worked out well: If you use a porter at the airport he will check you in and take you through a special line just for red caps. That worked well for use as we had 8 people, half of them grossly overpacked.

What is there to do in Cruz Bay on a Saturday morning? We like to check out the vendors that setup in the park, eat breakfast at JJ's, stop in Freebird for some charm bracelets, and hit St. John Spice for the take home cache of island flavors!

Cheers, RickG

Second the porters!

We also used the airport porters for our last visit. With 5 adults and an infant, it really made nagivation through the (very busy) airport much easier.

Would this work with the Westin ferry? We are taking the ferry back to the airport and I am not sure where they drop you off exactly. I think we have to get in a car to get to the airport? Thanks!

we took the Caneel ferry back and what we did was drove to Caneel (we had stayed there earlier in the week), asked the bell captain to get our bags from the car and store them. He asked which ferry we would be on and we told him noon. From there we took our car back, did some last minute stuff in town, took a taxi back to Caneel and then enjoyed the breakfast buffet while waiting for noon! It worked out really well.
