should we buy snorkel gear before we leave? or Rent?
should we buy snorkel gear before we leave? or Rent?
We are staying at the Westin but want to do a little snorkeling each day around the island. Does anyone know the rental fees or should we buy them at home? (we hate how much weight and space it will take though). Can you rent for the week and how can I find out how much it will cost? thanks!
Another option is to hit Low Key Watersports or Cruz Bay Watersports for snorkel gear when you get there. I buy the kids inexpensive gear as sets when they are young. When they hit about 9 or 10 I get them scuba grade masks that fit well. But, I go every year at least once and the kids go every other year.
As to space/weight, you can put two kids' snorkel sets in a small snorkel knapsack. US Diver sells a cheap kit that includes the knapsack. You can check a mesh snorkel bag, but we carry ours on. The only things I must have on island are: passport, wallet, clothes on my back, bathing suit, snorkel gear!
Cheers, RickG

If I were you, I would buy at least a mask and snorkel. I really think it is worth it to take the time to go to a dive shop and get properly fitted for a mask. Nothing is more annoying than a leaky, foggy mask! If you get your own snorkel, spend a couple extra dollars and get a dry snorkel. That way you can dive down and look at stuff and not have the snorkel fill up with water.
Have fun!

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I love this dry snorkle, put one in each stocking and they will love you!

My husband and daughter have the mask on that page and love them. I got a prescription mask at my local dive shop and it was the best investment I made in equipment.
My husband loves the split fins as he used to get cramps after a long snorkle with the old stiff ones. I like my old stiff fin, I feel I get a better work out on my legs!
