Liquor and food shopping on STT
Liquor and food shopping on STT
We're newbies to St. John and would appreciate some advice. We will arrive on St. Thomas at 1:15PM. We are renting a jeep from Dependable then heading to Red Hook.
We would like to shop for food and booze while on St. Thomas. Where is the best place for each?
Thanks,
Joe and Elen

Food Center was a good stop for us last Saturday. We got liquor at the duty free at the airport and that was a good deal. We bought canned soda (cheaper) and canned beer (the same price) as well as our staples and fruit/veg. We spent $160, of which a quarter was two cases of Presidente. The rest of our shopping was at Lilly's in Coral Bay. This is my first trip ever when I did not go to Starfish Market.

I second the Food Center for shopping, but we usually first stop at Cost-U-Less (Costo kind of place) to pick up all the booze and bottled water. They carry the larger bottles (1,75 L) bottles of booze and have a very good selection. Then we stop at the Food Center to pick up all the non-meat (we bring a cooler full of meat) for the rest of the stuff. The best part is – the Food Center has a live Caribbean Lobster tank that we always get a few of them for dinner. Hope that helps.

FlaG, no kidding on the lobster tank. There was one in there the size of my 10 year old!
We stayed away from Cost U Less because we wanted to get to Cruz Bay in time for the St. Pat's parade. A case of water at Food Center was $13. It would likely be worth the trip next time.

Ya RickG - The last time down, I got a 3 pounder out of that tank. The girls behind that counter got a guy to fish him out. He grab the bug by the antenna and that made the bug made - so the tail was flipping like crazy. Needless to say, the guy got his bath early that day. The poor guy was soaked.RickG wrote:FlaG, no kidding on the lobster tank. There was one in there the size of my 10 year old!
Price of Bug - $35
Price of watching the Bug Catcher - free
Eating that Bug - priceless
