Post by dark & diet »

we're taking a few newbies to jost on our trip in may. we're going from a saturday to a saturday. any suggestions on the best (slowest) day on jost to go. last year we went on a monday thinking it would be a slower day, but turned out to be really busy at soggy dollar. thanks :D

Looks like we will be on island at the same time. As much as we love the Soggy Dollar, it is not our favorite bar on Jost so I can't help you with the perfect day. I have been there on Tuesday and Wednesday (on and off season) and both days were busy. Honestly, Jost is awesome on any day no matter how busy. We will be there on Tuesday (May 13) afternoon and all day Friday (May 16).

CHM,

What is your favorite bar on Jost?
It takes both the sun and the rain to make a beautiful rainbow. --Unknown

Jost is getting busier and busier because of the cruise ships in Tortola now. The sheeple somehow make their way over there. I'm sure there are other reasons as well..
Any day is a good day on Jost. But I think that generally the middle of the week is less busy.

Well, we found the beach to be very full on a Wednesday (2/27)with 50 +/- from one ship alone plus a few day trip boats. On Thursday and Friday, we could see a 95 passenger cruise ship anchored off shore.

Mia,
Ivan's is our favorite bar on Jost. We love the Soggy Dollar too, but Ivan's is our favorite. :D Christy

We went on a Friday in the very low season, and it was just us at Ivan's all day. When we finally went to Soggy's, it was PACKED and there were little boats everywhere. I suspect Soggy Dollar probably stays pretty busy these days.

You are right LuLu, it's busy most days from what Tina the manager says. If you go down to either end of the beach you can get away from the crowds usually.
It's not the same as it used to be...

When we were there, it was a lot of STJ people taking day trips. We were told this by Todd (or was it Chad?) from Woody's, who was over there that day.

It's the most beautiful place I've ever been, so I can see why folks who live down there would go over for the day.

I'm just glad they've not yet migrated to Ivan's. I don't want to give up my hammock. Shhh...

LuLu, hopefully people will not migrate down to Ivan's. I love it there as well. When we stay at Sandcastle we usually go down to Ivan's while the daytrippers are at SDB. I just love Ivan. He has got to be one of the sweetest men and Darlene is great too.
When was the last time you were there?

p.s. I am from east TN but live in SC now. Go VOLS!

I like you already. :D

I'm interested in hearing some recommends for Jost too, because in 9 trips I have never made it over there. I am DETERMINED to make it over there in May.

This board needs more Vols fans, I think. :D

Vicki, I can't believe you've never made it there. I recommend you come with us in November, because we have a hot date with Ivan!

One of my traveling companions when we went in October said this about Ivan on her blog:

"It's how Ivan hugs you as if he's known you his entire life - then tells you he loves you and asks if he can do anything for you. If not, then he'll go and pour some concrete for a new project, then come back to hug and kiss you goodbye. When he tells you he can't wait to see you again, and that you'd better return.

"He means it.

"For the first time - in my life - on a vacation...
I felt LOVED by a host. Actually, LOVED!
Yes. I realize. Hoky. But, I did."

Ivan is a great person. Like family.

That being said, y'all better vacate my hammock the second weekend in November!

Ivan is family so of course I will vote for him and his place........
I love 'one love' with Seddy to.
We do not have alot of cruise ships coming these days.......not bad for business and has not gotten that crazy.
I was just at Ivans a few weeks ago and for a Monday we were pretty busy, tuesday to.
As Lulu says Ivan treats you like family.
Tell him Rosi says hello......:)

I've not done either of those things. I keep thinking I'm going to, but then Ivan brings me a cheeseburger and I'm in my hammock with a cold Carib and I never leave. (Well, except to fight the crowds for my obligatory painkiller.)

When I make painkillers at home, they are pretty darn close to Soggy's. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
