Finding a one day jeep rental on St. john

Post by amurphy08 »

I know it's hard to reserve a rental for one day. Is it do able and anyone have recomendations? Seems everyone is wanting a 3 day minimum.
We are only going to be on St. John for 3 days and really only want one for 1 day to drive around the island.

Thanks in advance!

When are you going? Where are you staying? You may have to gamble on finding one. We stayed on Tortola a couple of years ago and took the ferry to STJ for the day. We walked around to diffent agencies and the first one had a Jeep for us. There are a lot of agencies in Cruz Bay. My guess you should be able to find something but you probably won't have any luck with a 1 day reservation.

Better for the company to rent out for a day than not at all. It can't hurt to ask; all they can do is say no. Try Courtesy, when everyone else was out of a vehicle they were able to book me one. Perhaps they have a large fleet of vehicles??? Anyway, they're next to The Front Yard and were very nice. It may also depend on when you're going. If it's not too busy, they may be happy to have the business. Good luck. Ali~

we were there 2 weeks ago for 3 days and wanted a 1 day rental also. we walked into st john car rental one morning, signed a few papers, and drove away in our jeep for the day. call around but you shouldn't have a problem finding one. better for them to rent it to you then keep it sitting on their lot. good luck & remember to keep left!

Thanks for all the info. I have been a regular to the BVI's for the past 4 years, so it's been about 5 years since I was on STJ. Sounds like a few things have changed, but not much. I'm sure we will have luck finding one for a day when we get on island.

Thanks!

Another suggestion – Denzil Clyne found a car for us (it was a week-long rental, but it was when everyone else was all sold out).

You might want to try Thomas with Hospitality, too. His are definitely 'island' vehicles, but he has good rates and a bright smile.

I meet A LOT of people who want to rent a car for one day. Most rental agencies won't do this in advance, but will at the last minute if they have a car available. There may be restrictions (i.e. it may have to be returned by a certain time to make it available for the next renter or if you need a car for a few days, you may have to switch vehicles.)
We usually just pick up the phone and start calling around. MOST of the time you can find something.
