Key West Anyone??

Post by darkanddietwithlime »

Hello All, We just got back from St John on Saturday. Had a great time and, unfortunately, I didn't take the time to start a trip report while there, but am working on one now. Soon!!!
Anyway, we are heading to Key West April 19 for a week. We are renting a 4 bdrm condo with my parents (81 & 82 yrs. young), my brother and sister in law and our daughter and son in law (from Colorado).
We have been before, usually stay in Key Largo and do a one day overnighter to Key West but this year will be in KW for the whole week.
Any favorite restaurants? We will definitely go to Conch Republic, Sloppy Joe's (for lunch and drinks).
My sister in law has mentioned Alice's Restaurant and 7 Fish. Have not tried them in the past. Any comments?
Thanks for your help.

when we were there I actually heard people on the street talking about 7 Fish. sounds like the kind of place you must have a reservation for. We went to Alice's for Sunday brunch and it didn't thrill me.
A place we really liked for breakfast/brunch was Blue Heaven http://blueheavenkw.homestead.com/Blue_ ... _West.html

As for dinners I must say nothing bowled me over. We went to a place on Duval that was pretty good. It's name is the address 915 Duvall maybe? http://www.915duval.com/

Also a good Spanish/Cuban place near Mallory Square.

We stayed near this place and got coffee and breakfast there a few mornings http://www.croissantsdefrance.com/

Need to do some googling to remember the names. Will come back to you if I find them.

Updated with correct names and links!

Thanks Mary Beth. We have been to Blue Heaven as well. Funky little place. Good food, too.
After I posted my question I saw your post with the breakfast place. Croissant? Oh yes, we are there! I bookmarked the website.
Thanks, Janet

Lucky you - I love Key West!

Alanzo's (at the pier/bight) has great Happy Hour deals...all apps and drinks are half price. We had some great oysters there last year, and if you can get a table outside, the atmosphere is great. Kelly's (of Top Gun fame) also has a good happy hour - wings, and killer margaritas.

Have a Pirates Punch at Capt. Tony's...I think Hog's Breath also has a "signature" rum punch that's pretty good.

If you haven't been to the Butterfly Conservatory, you should check that out...pretty neat.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, may be able to help you out. have a great trip!

We also LOVE key West and I have to agree w/ several of Mary Beth's suggestions.

Love the funkiness of Blue Heaven, roosters and all! and the food wasn't bad. The cuban/mexican place she mentioned was descent too.

We have had some very nice tapas meals at 915.

We did eat at 7 fishes and eh, we were not all that impressed. Small, cramped, not much atmosphere but the fish WAS fresh.

One of our BEST meals ever in KW was at Michaels. It is located at 532 Margaret St. ...Check it out @

We also like Pepe's over on Caroline? for breakfast and lunch. There is a grocery store close by where we bought our Ting, and stocked up on other adult beverages.

There is a bar over there that I have no idea of the name but over by the docks behind that grocery store where Jimmy Buffet has his studio that has a sand "floor"...live music most afternoons which we enjoyed for lunches. Great atmosphere and nice lunches as well as some entertaining LIVE music.

I will remember more and post as I remember!

We were in Key West in December. We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast off Duval St. Food was good at Conch Republic, Hogs Breath and some place that specialized in really good hamburgers - which they were! I can't remember the name of it but it was on the right side of Duval going towards Mallory Square.

Don't miss the sunsets in Mallory Square.

We went on a sunset cruise which was really nice - except when the woman next to me spilt wine all over me! We rented scooters for the day and loved it. We went all over the island and had a great time. If you have any questions, pm me.

Have a wonderful time!
