I was at Trunk Bay a few years back and the wave breaks were at 10 feet high and enormous. It was incredibly loud (and for a not great swimmer)sort of scary. It was clearly posted red flag at the entrance, and the lifeguard was busy as could be warning non athletic looking people about back/muscle injury if you are in shallow water when that wave crashes in. Someone on this forum actually implied I might be exagerating about the unusual severe weather because it doesn't usually get like that at this time of year. It was an odd and fascinating sight to behold...I'm glad I got to experience it because a)it teaches you that no matter when you go, Mother Nature can be a powerful force, and b)that's why I don't go in hurricane season.
