STJ in May

Post by acohen »

Hello Everyone,

I'm also a newbie to the forum and have really enjoyed reading all the postings and have gathered some great info from them! I'm taking my husband to STJ this May for his 40th birthday (staying at Gallows) and this will be his first visit. It's been way too long for me between visits (about 15 years) so I'm looking for some suggestions for great place for his bday dinner. It'll be just the 2 of us. We honeymooned at Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda last year and had a blast. Anyone else going to be in STJ May 21-26?

Welcome to the Forum.....you're gonna find alot of great people here with great info to learn from.

Also, Happy 40th to your hubby! Great place to celebrate! We will be on STJ right before you so we'll miss being there the same time, but we'll leave you some "paradise" to enjoy!

p.s. - I'm originally from Alabama...gotta ask ya: Auburn or Alabama?

Welcome to the forum!

Zozo's right there at Gallows Point, is very good. I also love La Tapa.

For a romantic atmosphere, a table on the rail at Asolare would fill the bill. I've had good and bad experiences there myself, but there have been lots of really good reviews around lately. I think they have a new chef.

Welcome!

I loved La Tapa when we went there. Request a table away from the street, as it can be busy at times from Woody's overflow.

We will be trying Asolare when we are there next, which happens to be right around when you're going. My husband and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary on St. John from May 24 - May 31.

Good luck!

Welcome! The food at La Tapa is amazing, but I might choose somewhere with a view like Zozo's or Asolare for a birthday dinner.

We'll be down in May at the same time as you! My brother's will be proposing during our trip to his girlfriend that currently lives in Alabama! They met through work and they are ready for the distance to be over! We hope to meet some more Forumites on our trip. I'm sure we'll be easy to spot Sunday night when we celebrate their engagement. I hope your return trip to St.John is wonderful!

We celebrated my birthday last May at Stone Terrace and really enjoyed it. Exellent food and we thought it was great overlooking Cruz Bay.

I second Stone Terrace. That's where we go for our special, romantic night out. And, it's just a short walk from Gallows.

The rack of lamb never disappoints.

I will be on island the same time - we leave on the 24th. I'm also celebrating my 40th this year but not until December :(

I agree that ZoZo's is a great pic for the views but love the food at La Tapa more and they also have a great wine list.

Maybe, we'll run into you at Woody's or the Beach Bar. Gallows is a great place to stay. Enjoy!

I also would highly recommend Stone Terrace. The kind of meal that you say "Mmmmmmm..." after every bite. Tuna tartar, surf and turf with potato gratin, lamb chop with carrot gnocchi and Stilton cream sauce - You HAVE to get the carrot gnocchi.... I've tried a whole bunch of dishes from there because my brother (IslandChef)worked there last summer and I kinda made a habit of visiting  But I'm not biased - it really is that good. Sorry for lurking but I couldnt not answer this one!! I'll be back in May and Stone Terrace will definitely be one of our stops!! 59 days and counting!

We will be arriving Sunday, May 25 and leaving June 1. With our flight arriving in STT at 3:15pm we hope to arrive early enough to make it to the Beach Bar. We'll see you there.

Thanks for the great suggestions for a great dinner.
