Can you clarify a boarding pass question?
Can you clarify a boarding pass question?
Hi - I've been reading a bunch of posts about leaving STT on a Saturday. Which we are doing! I know about the porters, etc. We do have luggage to check. Some posts indicated that it is still worth it to get boarding passes printed because the luggage check line is separate from the boarding pass line. Others say it's a waste if you have luggage.
What is the scoop on this. We are flying American. Our friends are USAir.
Thanks,
sue

As you do have luggage to check, even if you pre print your boarding passes, you have to stand in the line to check your luggage as the airline representative prints your baggage tags outside at the counter. Only then do you carry your stuff inside, thru Customs and Immigration and onto the area where you leave the bags for screening. You then proceed thru security and into the gate area.
The one way around standing in line, is to use a porter. It makes no difference if you have pre printed boarding passes or not for him as he will print them for you, as well as your tags. You will need to show him some kind of itinerary with your names on so he can find you in the computer.
Pre printed boarding passes help if you have carry on only as then you can proceed directly to the Customs and Immigration. If you do not have your boarding passes, even if you have carry on only, you would then have to stand in line as you can't clear Customs and Immigration without them.
Hope this makes sense.

This was our experience flying American on Saturday for a 6 PM flight. The lines to get boarding passes and check luggage were slow. Since we already had our boarding passes we only needed to check the luggage at the self serve kiosk. Lines for the kiosk were not well defined and once we entered the data it took some time for them to call your name to tag your luggage. Overall still much quicker than the boarding pass/check luggage line.
Lines for customs and security were very quick.
