Solomon is the beach. I still dream about. When you see cptkirk's picture it's easy to understand why. And the snorkeling was fine. I didn't find the trail very strenuous. But Honemoon is lovely too.

Okay, I have a question. My husband and I visited Honeymoon/Salomon ??? last June. I am not sure which beach it was? We began our LOOOOOng hike at the Park's visitors center - Now I know a big mistake!!! hearing you all talk about beginning at Caneel. It seemed like it took forever to get there. It was a very small beach but beautiful. The snorkeling was wonderful! If we had swam to the right from the beach would we have come to Honeymoon or if we swam to the left from the beach would we have come to Salomon? Confused. Both beaches are worth the visit!!! It was our last full day on the island and my husband's birthday. Certainly a must!

Honeymoon is my fav. I've hiked from the trail around the Nat. Park station, but that was years ago and my husband saw a guy rubbing sunscreen on a guy and nearly lost his lunch. Yes........homophobic. Sorry if I offended anyone, not me, him. Sooooo, we just take the path from Caneel, which is really easy, and if anyone is so inclined (not the Mr.), we snorkel around the point to Soloman. I guess it could be rough certain times of year and such, but we have never had a problem. I just swim really fast and pray I don't see a "you know what".

Judi ya probably were at Salomon if ya walked down a steep hill to get there. We went the same way our first day ever on St John was worth it but it is a pretty good hike. Salomon is the first beach when coming from that way swim around the point to the right facing the ocean for a great snorkel and Honeymoon beach. The pic of the point is old now ya can see the house that sits there as they have cleared some of the trees wish they hadn't done that doesn't seem as secluded now :(

Hi, Definitely try to see Solomon!!! the walk was so worth it!!!!!!! we walked it from honeymoon & yes there were some small uphill climbs & turns & twists... if u can try it ONCE & make sure not to cart chairs !!! take beach bag, towel & water. we love Honeymoon also but the beautiful palms make this beach picture perfect!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Try it without a chair. We've never hauled a chair in 30+ beach trips. A backpack that leaves your hands free is the only way to go. Besides, it will feel pretty awkward if you want to stop for a drink at Caneel clanking around a beach chair. :)

How about getting one of those beach chair/backpack combo things? That would work well :)

Funny you should mention that. We were thinking the same thing and further thinking a backpack cooler would be a good idea, too. The ones we found on island were too small.

Now that I think about it, that would have been the perfect thing for Salomon. :D You'd get both hands to hang on to the trees and such, and yet you'd have a beach chair when you got there.

This looks good and the price is right and it says that it will hold a small cooler, but I don't think I would want to pack it in my luggage to get it there.

We did the Lind Trail from Estate Lindholm with beach chairs, cooler and in flip flops. It wouldn't have been too bad had it not rained buckets the prior week - it was very slippery and the mosquitos were out in force; definitely doable. Probably easier from Caneel.

I have a backpack chair that I got at Walmart's a few years ago - it's held up well. It has a pocket in the back that holds towel, book, iPod, etc. - not enough room for a cooler. I think it was ~$20; could be checked as luggage and left.

Beach chair to Honeymoon from Caneel would be a breeze it's all flat. Have done Salomon with two chairs, cooler and a backpack from the national park now that was not smart. We just take towels and a cooler now. The last two times to Salomon there has been an old lounge chair some one has left now that had to be hard to get down there.

We did Honeymoon from Caneel w/ chairs, beach bag and cooler - it seemed long like we would never get there - but the trip back seemed shorter. We take beach chairs to Hilton Head Island every year - we take two chairs and wrap them together w/packing tape and then check them on as luggage - we have done this for 8-10 years now and it works great.
