area advice: Great Cruz Bay?

Post by lark22 »

Looking for some advice here...a quick bit of background first.

My husband and I have been to STJ twice in the past two years, and felt immediately "at home" within the first day of the first trip. Both times, we stayed up near Francis at the sweet little Honeymoon Cottage (above Villa Serenity). We love the proximity to Francis, and the "away from it all" feeling.

Now we're thinking of taking our moms down to STJ to introduce them to our very favorite island, but we think they might enjoy being closer to town – we saw Gull & Splash cottages online and were wondering whether it might be fun for them to be near the water and closer to town.

What's it like to stay in Great Cruz Bay? Loud at night? Okay neighborhood?

Thanks for any & all input!

:)

We enjoy GCB. We've had friends who repeated at Splash. Good sunset views from the hillside. We stayed at Eaglesnest in November and the only time we heard anything was when the Westin ferry went by. I don't know about high season or no-see-ums right on the water.

I prefer being up the hillside a bit or a better sunset and fewer bugs. Its Allesandra for us in November.

Cheers, RickG

We stayed at Splash last July. it was a great little house in a very convenient location. It was not loud at night at all. My only 2 problems with it was the pool is inside the house and the third bedroom (crows nest) is not air conditioned.

We stayed at Gull Cottage February 2007 and LOVED IT!!!
The location is fabulous.Being on the water with the sea wall is absolutely gorgeous. It's unusual to be right on the
water. We loved all the goings on right there. The boats, the kayakers, etc. It's a hop, skip and a jump to the Westin which, if you
play tennis, is fabulous. You're 10 minutes from Cruz
Bay and the Marketplace for food shopping is 2 minutes away.Incredibly convenient to everything. It's great having the third bedroom for kids. We didn't use it since we were just 2 couples but in you situation it is perfect. All the bedrooms are air conditioned, which you'll probably need in June. Since the house is not in the mountains there won't be as much breeze and it could get really warm. My only problem with the house is that one of the bedrooms is pretty dark and much smaller than the other which has the office attached. But we didn't spend much time in the bedrooms... The pool is small but great for plunging at the end of the day after the beach or at night for a midnite dunk. Kitchen is good and the living room is very comfortable. As you can tell, we loved it and would stay again in a heart beat. Maybe next year. Good luck and enjoy.
