Pat - I wonder which island we kept circling? I saw lots of beach coves (I was sitting on the left side of the plane) but not a lot of buildings or development.

We had a similar experience with STJ Car Rental on our last visit, and I WILL NOT rent from them again. We filled the car up the night before we left at the Texaco in town, and drove to the villa (South Shore just past the Westin). Straight to the ferry to drop wife, kid, bags the next morning and then to return the car.

Same story - CAR ISN'T FULL. $20 plus gas. I told her I just filled it, but she said it wasn't full. Back to the Texaco (I'll be damned if I'm giving them $20), I managed to get $2 of gas in it. Barely made the ferry and then the flight. This REALLY pissed me off after spending something like $400 to rent the vehicle for a week. NEVER AGAIN.

Not to pile on but I will not use St. John Car Rental again either. I bend over backwards to compliment STJ businesses and to be polite and professional when dealing with personnel but I was treated very rudely during the booking process by one of the women there, on several occasions. In addition they refused to give me an e-mail or phone confirmation even though they had charged a deposit to my credit card. The only reason I didn't suggest that she pack sand was because they had the only car left in town for our time frame. The man there was polite and the car was fine.

We have never had anything but excellent, fair and cordial exchanges with the Conrad Sutton folks and he keeps his cars in excellent condition. From now on it's Conrad Sutton for us.

Thanks for the report PA Girl. I hope your next trip is perfect and you only remember the best parts of this one!

I'm with you on Conrad Sutton's. We rented from Denzyl Cline and they were less than cordial to put it politely...I will go back to Sutton's next time. Only rented from DC as I was hoping my agent was getting some type of commission becuase she recommended them to us. She was great-Denise from ONline Vacations for anyone looking for villas...
CRAZY about Caneel Bay!! I think those foreigners may have been on my flight home-were they Italian or Spanish? I couldn't figue out what htey were but there was a huge group of them and they had packed Caneel lunches w/them on flight.

It was one girl (long black wavy hair) with several guys. She sticks out in my memory because her dress, hair and make-up was particularlly attractive and fancy in a island-y way.

PA Girl, give the Caneel manager a good tongue lashing. It's the General Manager's responsibility to control the crowd. I think they owe you a nice off-season meal!

My last task yesterday was to send an email to Caneel. I had a message this morning that they received it. I will report back on the results.

We are actually considering a late summer trip so a comp would be nice.
