Cheap one night in St. Thomas

Post by snorkelqueen »

Well "kids" are going to join us in SJ in July but....they are hoping to arrive in St. Thomas on a Friday afternoon/evening for best airfare. We don't arrive or secure our villa until Saturday. My question: can anyone recommend a clean, safe and afforable (read cheap) place to stay just one night in St. Thomas? Thanks in advance for information! Less money spent getting there = more money to spend at Beach Bar!

We booked at the Crystal Palace on STT for next Friday for the same reason. Ronnie is a member of the STJ Rotary and an occasional poster there. We went for the rooms with shared bath. It's essentially a West Indian mansion with rooms for let.

My friend, Sharon, stayed at The Galleon House at the top of the 99 Steps and she said it was a very nice, very clean place. She said the people who run it are super nice, too! I can't remember the price, but it was very affordable.

The Green Iguana
Villa Santana

Have stayed at both and would do so again. Villa Santana is up the hill behind The Green House (west end of the strip). The Green Iguana is right next door to Blackbeard's Castle (or is it Bluebeard?), so at the east end of the strip. Green Iguana has an awesome website where you can see pictures of the rooms as well as their view out the window and the availability, and the place is a very cool funky. Villa Santana is more of an historic place, but still very nice.

Check out Mafolie's as well. They have affordable rooms as well as a fabulous restaurant. We ate there in January and it was very enjoyable. I did not check out the rooms, but they look decent online, and the view is to die for. I'd stay there just so I could sit at the bar and take in the views.

Certainly not within walking distance to downtown, but still looked like a nice place.

Sorry to hijack the post -- but does someone have a recommendation closer to the airport. One members of our group is going to get in a day early and wanted to find a place for 1 night that was close to the airport so she can meet up with us on sat morning when we get there.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric! There are 2 Best Westerns close to the airport. The Best Western Carib is walking distance from the airport terminal. The Best Western Emerald Beach gets some rave reviews and is only about 1/2 mile from the terminal. I haven't stayed there, but most people who have say the beach there is absolutely fantastic!

At the airport - Best Western Emerald Beach - 100% over the other Best Western (have not stayed at either but from everything I have read and heard :))

We have stayed in both BW's. Go with the Emerald Beach hotel! Yes, it is somewhat inexpensive, close to the airport. The beach is very good and every room faces the water. I would call it safe and clean.

This is the view from our room's balcony.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think we will go with Emerald Beach...the other property looks a little run down.

Another vote for Emerald Beach. We'll be overnighting there again in June. Nice pool and restaurant/bar. Great beach!
