Good Friday Dry?

Post by RickG »

I seem to recall that the USVI is dry for at least part of Good Friday?

Rick,

We were there for Good Friday, I think two years ago. I remember it being "dry" in the afternoon. We tried to bring our beers into one of the restaurants in Coral Bay (I can't remember which one) for lunch, and they asked us not to because the restaurant could get fined.

Oh no is this true?
Our flight arrives around 130pm on Good Friday and I have to admit one of my favorite things to do to unwind and get on island time is to have an ice cold beer. =)

Does this mean the LQ store at the airport will be closed?

18 days!!

From On-StJohn last year:
Good Sober Friday
A very old law means a very sober island. At least until Happy Hour, which seems reasonable. The Virgin Islands marks Good Friday by prohibiting alcohol sales at bars and restaurants from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The law doesn’t apply to retail stores, so if you’ve got bugs crawling all over you and you can’t get past the shakes, pick up a pint at Starfish and sit in the parking lot.

I remembered seeing this last year. We don't get on island until Saturday Night so it doesn't apply to us.

Hope this helps.

Well, Good Friday is our last beach day. So, the BYOB beach bar at Francis or Maho Bay will be open!

Wait a minute. There's a liquor store at the airport on STT?

Yes there is a liquor store at the STT airport right in the baggage claim area - and cheap too - and yes it will be closed as well.

We arrive on Easter. Do you know if it will be closed then?

Wow......I have to admit I had a panic moment after reading this thread. How sad is that. It's our last beach day too. But I do feel a bit guilty about partying it up on Good Friday. Maybe I'll get so wasted on Thurs. I won't want anything on Fri.

That's the spirit - sort of Mardi Gras/Lent-light!
